- The US has no freedom of panorama for works of art; this statue was unveiled on 15 September 2002 and hence automatically copyrighted to its sculptor Lou Cella of the Roblatt-Armany Studio (see base of statue) until 70 years have elapsed since the artist's passing. - Jappalang—
The base of statue states that the statue was commissioned by Mike Illich; so why are you saying that Lou Cella holds the copyright? Unless you know something that I don't, the person to contact is Illich, not Cella.<br. />—NBahn (talk) 09:03, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]- http://copyrightaction.com/faq/who-owns-copyright-in-commissioned-work:
- "For an employee carrying out photography in the course of theirr employment, copyright of the work will belong to the employer unless agreed otherwise. This may apply even if the employee uses their own camera, and shoots outside normal working hours.
- For a freelance working for a client, copyright will belong to the photographer, not the client, unless agreed otherwise. Despite client expectations this applies to commissioned work where the client provides a brief, pays a fee, pays expenses incurred and even the cost of equipment hire." -- from 1988 Copyright Designs and Patents Act
- Regardless of which of the three (Illich, Roblart-Armany, Cella) holds the copyright, proof of permission for their copyright to the statue under a suitable CC license or release into public domain is required. Jappalang (talk) 21:56, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- This is a photograph of three-dimensional bronze relief constructed in 1986. According to his website, the sculptor was George Nelson ([1]), who was commissioned by the city of San Antonio. Per [2], there is a copyright notice on the sculpture. From my understanding of the copyright laws, since the sculpture is under copyright, we cannot declare a photograph of it as public domain.
