- It seems to me that showing the cover of a book is like stating its title, but the byzantine copyright regulations are not clear to me on this -- if uploading a different form that credits its source and has no profit motive violates copyright, then I need to delete all the scans of the bookcovers. - Someone added a rational and removed the license i added {{non-free computer icon}} so now it really is non-free so i guess discussion closed.--IngerAlHaosului (talk) 18:54, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- No, in fact, you did not. The original upload originates from neoconnews.com (a copy of which you found mirrored on chemicallygreen.com). However, the new image you uploaded under the same name and replaced the old one with does not originate from either of those two websites. Since original uploader requests deletion, please delete. - I believe I just saw a request from the original uploader that this image be deleted since there seems to be some confusion over the copyright status of the image. Given this any further discussion on this point would seem to be moot. Please speedily delete the image per the request from the "owner" since the image in question has not been used for any purpose in article space. --GoRight (talk) 14:41, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- PD-self - erm... Clearly shows an artwork - Possibly PD-OLD? Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:22, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I do not hold the copyright to the artwork (the Dome with frescoes) that the photograph depicts. I hold copyright to the Photograph that DEPICTS the artwork. The photograph itself is not an artwork. If I take picture of St. Peter's Basilica, do I have to say that its a work of Gian Lorenzo Bernini? No, its my work.--Satt 2 (talk) 20:27, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- The uploader appears to be correct here, assuming that indeed this is his own photograph. The architecture and frescoes depicted are clearly PD-old, while the photograph attracts its own copyright (since it's not 2D, it doesn't fall under the PD-art rules), so he can validly license them as his own work. Satt 2, for the sake of clarity and encyclopedic usefulness, could you perhaps specify what building this actually is? (same for the other parallel case below). - Copyvio This photograph of a 3-D artwork File:Cathedral_dome.jpg is this image [1] on flickr by earthmagnified. It does not have either of the two creative commons licenses necessary for use on wikipedia. Images of the dome from the Church of the Gesu do exist on commons, eg File:Cupola Baciccia Gesu.jpg. - So what that the photographs depict an artwork? If I take a picture of the Capitol Rotunda, should I list the architect of the Capitol building as a copyright holder? The copyright that I am specifying refers to the PHOTOGRAPH that I took, rather than what the photograph depicts.--Satt 2 (talk) 20:50, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
