Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:WAA

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the miscellaneous page below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the page's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this page.

The result of the debate was Merge to Wikipedia:Other_awards#Wikipedia_Administrator_Award, leaving a redirect. Only the high-res award has been merged as a direct result of this MFD, other additions to the Other Awards page can be discussed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Awards. — xaosflux Talk 02:29, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seems to be a page full of (pretty terrible to be frank) barnstars. Reminds me of Wikipedia:Awards center which was deleted this year. Also appears to have a subtle backstory after a previous clash between the creator and Hersfold (trying to "suck up", as it were?) Just my opinion. I don't think this page should be kept on Wikipedia. Garden. 21:43, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Delete... don't we already have Wikipedia:Barnstars and Wikipedia:Other awards? -- Consumed Crustacean (talk) 06:23, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. I don't understand the reason for deletion. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 11:17, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. None of these are equivalent to any of the barnstars, and I was not willing to award Hersfold with any of these awards until I saw for myself that he was an extremely beneficial contributor. He has helped many in the past and has even helped me. I will double-check to see if any barnstars will fit the WAA categories. As for the awards and templates for awards, they will still run even if the WAA page is still deleted. This is not a matter of butting heads -- Wikipedia would simply not tolerate that. This is a matter of "keep" or "delete" for the benefits of Wikipedia, and frankly, I say "keep." -BlueCaper (talk) 13:00, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Pardon? So, you wish to keep the page even though you say you wouldn't need it anyway? And anyway, it's a collection of awards you only seem to want to give to one person. Garden. 22:55, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • Absolutely not! There are plenty of administrators who deserve this award to whom I have not yet given! There will be more specialized WAAs as well. They just have been not yet created. I have put so much work into this page, but prior to that, I searched the Barnstars, and there are none just for admins. So, these will be used multiply. -BlueCaper (talk) 16:45, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Special awards for admins, and a special project / page for them as well? I don't believe it is beneficial to the community spirit to create such pages. IF you want to thank an editor (admin or not), either give them one of the many existing barnstars, or just write a personalized message.Fram (talk) 09:06, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge This page can be merged into the Wikipedia:Other awards page or moved to userspace. I see no reason for deletion.- Mgm|(talk) 12:52, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge and redirect to/with Wikipedia:Other awards, even though the Barnstars are poorly designed :p. --Domthedude001 02:25, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - There's already a barnstars page, no need to have more. Also too bureaucratic. macy 03:16, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete divisive; we all work together on this project, and admins are no higher in status than other users. Special awards only increase the gap between user and admin. PeterSymonds (talk) 22:02, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge to barnstars page. roux ] [x] 23:12, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • An entire page devoted to these barnstars/awards is certainly inappropriate. Now, a barnstar specifically for an especially judicious and wise administrator action may not be totally out of line, but that's not a decision for MfD. So, depending on consensus achieved elsewhere, perhaps a barnstar/award of sorts for what I said above could be added to Wikipedia:Other awards (although I personally don't much support such an award, a regular barnstar should suffice). For now, should the author of this page wish to do so, the one award whose image doesn't look like it was created in MS Paint in about four minutes could be added to that page, and general editorial processes can take over from there. But this page should be deleted. seresin ( ¡? )  23:58, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge Per prior MFDs on topic area. MBisanz talk 13:46, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge with Wikipedia:Other awards or add them to Wikipedia:Personal user awards. No need to keep them on a special page for themselves when any of these pages can serve the purpose well. Chamal talk 11:59, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete There is no reason to have special awards for admins. As PeterSymonds said, it only widens the gap between admins and users. --pbroks13talk? 19:29, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
