The result of the discussion was: userfy to User:Hyacinth/Thesis. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 07:30, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
The, uh, thesis of this essay is encapsulated in its first sentence: Wikipedia articles should contain a thesis statement early in their introductions and listed at the top their talk pages
. This is just plain wrong. Essays are given fairly wide latitude to adopt minority viewpoints, but this runs directly counter to WP:NOTESSAY, a widely accepted policy. Keeping it in projectspace risks confusing any newcomers who might come across it, and it has essentially no redeeming educational value to weigh against that. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 06:21, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

- Userfy to User:Hyacinth/Thesis as a disputed single-author essay. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 10:27, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
- Delete/userfy, it's on my watchlist due to previous vandalism but now that I think about it it's not appropriate for the Wikipedia namespace. Graham87 10:32, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
- Userfy: patently goes against WP:NOTESSAY, WP:NPOV, etc. Edward-Woodrow :) [talk] 12:03, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
- So I'm pretty sure this essay is a joke. The 'square' paragraph, at least, is clearly humour, and the essayist was an experienced editor at the time of its creation. Userfy given the title could be misleadingly authoritative -- assuming the creator doesn't object, as they still seem semi-active -- but this should be harmless if tagged as humour. Vaticidalprophet 13:11, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah, seems possible. @Hyacinth, we are much stricter these days about requiring humor to be tagged than in 2011. Please ensure that any humor pages you may have created are in compliance with WP:HREQ. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 15:18, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
- I don't think I could've come up with a more bureaucratic way to put it if I tried.[FBDB] Vaticidalprophet 17:27, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

- Userfy or Delete - Wikipedia articles should begin with a lede sentence or paragraph, so this is incorrect. If this is meant to be humor, it isn't amusing. Robert McClenon (talk) 21:27, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
- Userfy, the essay is clearly relevant to the goals of WP, and thus doesn't violate any userspace rules Mach61 (talk) 02:37, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- Userfy. I don't think it's humour. The main problem with it as it stands is the "should" advice, since it doesn't describe current practice. casualdejekyll 03:14, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
- It didn't describe 2011 practice either (contrary to a general 'increasing standards' perception, by 2009-2010ish most content discussions you can find archived look pretty much the same as they do now, and when they don't it's in complex directions that don't correspond trivially to a "higher" or "lower" standards trend). The "square" paragraph is obviously not meant to be taken at face value, and the essay as a whole reads as very dry humour given the context that "articles should be written like theses" is as absurd a statement in 2011 as 2023 and that the author had been around for many years by that point. Vaticidalprophet 12:54, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
- Delete as misleading or incorrect; only userfy if the author requests userfication. Cheerio, ⛵ WaltClipper -(talk) 13:02, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
