Wikipedia:List of ways to verify notability of articles[edit]

Seems to serve no purpose and only ads to the overwhelming literature on deletion. If someone can demonstrate a purpose, I would support a clean-up of the article. • Delete Not just does it not seem to serve a purpose, but it's actually slightly counterintuitive; it states that these sources help to "verify notability", but in cases like IMDb and AMG, in which having a page does not necessarily assert notability, this page states that notability is asserted for any actor or band with a listing on one of these sites. Either that, or the essay is so confusing that it should be deleted anyway. -- Kicking222 02:04, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • It was also created by a Nintendude sock, and I'm no fan of that. -- Kicking222 02:06, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • In that case, wouldn't speedy deletion as creation of a banned user be appropriate? Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 06:25, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, at least redirect to Wikipedia:Reliable sources. Mostly misleading - an entry in Imdb, for example, contrary to some belief, does not demonstrate notability, and Google and Yahoo tests are downright useless - and no obvious way to turn into a page that adds something to what, as Kevin says, is already overwhelming literature on deletion. --Sam Blanning(talk) 11:43, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, people will read WP:RS instead of this, they are not always accurate. This is rubbish, there are other ways how to verify notability of articles. This page is useless and don't see how we can make it useful. Terence Ong 15:05, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete WP:CSD G5 comes into play here. --SunStar Nettalk 03:02, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. This will only encourage people to complain that they met a criterion here, so their article must be notable. -Amarkov blahedits 04:25, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I think this article is useful, but probably needs to be rewritten or merged. Best wishes, Travb (talk) 16:48, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
