Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Hangman

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the miscellany page below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the page's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this page.

The result of the debate was Delete. There were some requests to userfy, I suppose people who want to play hangman in their userspace can do so. (Radiant) 12:49, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Uhh, no, they really shouldn't. There are plenty of other sites on the Internet they can play Hangman at. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not an online games site, and it's really not appropriate anywhere here, in userspace or otherwise. --Cyde Weys 05:16, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Hangman[edit]

This violates WP:NOT a place for social networking. Not encyclopedic. Moreschi 22:34, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also nominating the following archives, tips and other directly-related rubbish: this is a colossal waste of server space. Although apparently I needn't really worry about the server, but even so these pages are otiose. To quote Ned Scott: "Wikipedains are free to talk to each other and can set up such games externally. There are many free and more efficient services where they can play. To actually play these games on Wikipedia is needless and a clear violation of WP:NOT". This is not what projectspace was designed for.

Also, if the pages above are deleted, the following redirects should be deleted also:

Comment - Also, discussing it at the Village Pump or DoF or wherever dodges the issue. It's not appropiate. --Shrieking Harpy Talk|Count 19:59, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Totally off-topic, and there are literally millions of other sites on the web where folks can play. – Little Miss Might Be Wrong 21:28, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Defer to allow further discussion - Should all be discussed en masse. X [Mac Davis] (DESK|How's my driving?) 22:51, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete; Wikipedia is a damn encyclopedia, not a playground. Ral315 (talk) 07:44, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Extreamly strong Keep, wikipedians need a place for fun and the sandbox provides such a place that does not affect the integrity on wikipedia articles. Many users regually take part in the sandbox and removing a relaxing place will only make users feel represed in a stuffy environment. Think outside the box 09:41, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: This isn't part of the sandbox, if you bother to look. Moreschi 10:25, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment on above comment:Ok, but the point still stands; wikipedians need a place for fun and to relax. This page does not in any way affect the integrity of wikipedia articles. Think outside the box 10:30, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment despite its name, the sandbox isn't intended as a place to play, but rather a place to experiment with wiki-markup, without messing up the encyclopedia. Mak (talk) 15:43, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strongest keep there's ever been: Pretty much a jumbo-pack of the keeps above. We need to have some fun around here. It's only a few articles. No harm done. D•a•r•k•nes•s•L•o•r•di•a•n•••C••• 20:18, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete "This page allows you to carry out experiments" This text is in the sandbox. nowhere does it mention playing games. If Esperanza really wanted to help, they would put links on people's talk pages to sites that are actually game sites. Cnriaczoy42 20:19, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. --Mark J 20:38, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak Delete Ordinarily I would support sandbox articles, but Hangman seems a bit out of line.--WaltCip 20:59, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete the subpages, but keep the main page and tag it as historical.--TBCΦtalk? 04:55, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Having it double as a social networking site encourages people to miss the point. Let's stick to games that encourage improvement and scrutiny of our article content. -- SCZenz 06:26, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Games that could use the encyopedia could increase use of WP. -- Nathannoblet 07:40, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I moved it to my userpage -- Nathannoblet 07:40, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You do know you are not really supposed to do this while the deletion debate is still in progress? If the result of the discussion is "Userfy", then fine, but if the result is delete, then it will still get deleted. Carcharoth 11:00, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, I've since moved them back. -- Ned Scott 12:22, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Per nom. --Folantin 08:56, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Wikipedia is not a game site. Eluchil404 10:19, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, quickly. I see more and more people here who spend inordinate amounts of time and effort of things like this, elaborate user pages, and non-project chat on talk pages that do not move the project forward. Try games.yahoo.com. —Doug Bell talkcontrib 17:37, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete; we're here to write an encyclopedia. Games can be played elsewhere. --Spangineerws (háblame) 17:46, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. This does not further the goals of the project. JDoorjam Talk 00:21, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Keep per the fact that it's under Sandbox/. Who the hell cares? --JStalk 01:06, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • How is it under the sandbox? It's in project space. It's not a sub-page of the sandbox. It's practically an entire Wikiproject devoted to hangman. Mak (talk) 01:40, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Stong, strong keep. Failing that, userfy? -Abeg92 03:58, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • oh, this is silly, Delete, the extent that this has gone is no longer helping the encyclopedia. Play games somewhere else, write an encyclopedia here. Mak (talk) 04:11, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Conditional keep - userfy it, otherwise delete. – Chacor 08:59, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete This is not a gaming site this is an encyclopedia. There are lots of wikis out there that let you do whatever you want. I recommend you use the Special:Export command and move it to one of those if you want to play games. If you really want you can transwiki to my wiki, just stay in the OffTopic: namespace, but Wikipedia is not the place. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 16:13, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Mark as historic, per suggestion above. If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 17:33, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Take your pick:
    • Delete - can be done easily on another wiki, and is unrelated to editing, or...
    • Userfy and delete the archives if you absolutely must have it. --Gray Porpoisecetaceans have large brains 22:12, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
