Wikipedia:April Fools/April Fools' Day 2013 (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Wikipedia is a VERY serious place. We have no time to compile humorous jokes that take up too much space. This is getting out of hand! We are an encyclopedia, not a joke book. Delete!

Happy April Fools by the way. ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 10:57, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jeez! Who dares copy my idea? to think I thought this was original... :( ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 11:08, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Which is probably why some admin is going to come by soon and take it down for being unfunny. Quite unfortunate. Oh, and delete! Ansh666 (talk) 11:12, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I second the push to mainspace initiative, and believe it should be a featured article - Ana Rexia (talk)
  • Delete per nom.Kj plma (talk) 14:25, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete with extreme prejudice, per Dream Focus. Any other day of the year, people would be blocked and warned for the type of crap which has been going on here today. Why should one day be different? I'd second Mike V overnight, who said "suggest we restrict this to userspace." If only. Humblesnore (talk) 15:17, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge so many people who don't appear to have a sense of humor. it's not vandalism, all that happens in article space is AfD's. anything else is vandalism.see WP:rules for fools. -- Aunva6talk - contribs 17:37, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • Support above merge of the non-humourous people around here. Done in small quantities, it's a nice joke. I created a joke proposal to move the Wikimedia servers to Canada two years ago which was able to run its course as the staffish-type people there realize it's just a little light-hearted joke. If I were to make a similar joke here, it would be closed (possibly deleted) and admins. would be calling for my head in a guillotine. Come on, guys. Let us manage (and even close) our own jokes on our own. If something extends into April 2, then go ahead and close them then. Take a look at my 2011 joke; I closed it complete with a change to the header and footer message to go with the joke. Some of you folks freak out over light-hearted attempts to have fun. Maybe if you guys would try to contain - not outright ban - such fun, you might even enjoy it a little yourselves. Oh, and FTR, I made my one joke this year without editing in article namespace (just an edit to the deletion log which showed the entry complete with a humor tag). That's within limits that I feel are appropriate. CycloneGU (talk) 20:57, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Transwiki to the Japanese Wikipedia. They'd like it, and I like sushi and sukiyaki. --Dennis The Tiger (Rawr and stuff) 17:56, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Support mmm sushi Ansh666 19:55, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose Sukiyaki's terrible! Go, go, sashimi! ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 23:24, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I've got to be serious in a keep because it seems like some are being serious in their deletes. Strong precedence for this. Ryan Vesey 18:33, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes we are all very serious people here. Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 23:24, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea! Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 23:24, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Remove any content that celebrates fooling around in mainspace and keep the rest. We've had several years of successfully keeping April Fools harmonious and uncontentious by having a simple rule of avoiding mainspace, unfortunately this year we've had some complications with people trying to restrict this further without first seeking consensus, but a clean simple rule of keeping the jokes out of mainspace means that everyone knows where they stand on this day. • Comment April Fool's Day is no excuse for excessive vandalism, pointless AfDs and causing other problems. If April Fool's jokes are done anyway, I don't think that Wikipedia's quality needs to suffer because of them. However, I'm not sure if this page should be deleted or not. Hill Crest's WikiLaser! • Comment again Since this turned serious rather quickly, how would these votes be counted? Would joke deletes (including the nom's...nomnomnomsushi...wait where was I?) be counted as keep? (This can't be the first joke-turned-serious MfD, can it?) Ansh666 20:09, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • The MfD is worthless as a means of evaluating consensus of the community to delete it. Such an MFD would need to be hosted some time after April Fool's day and should probably undergo an RfC rather than an MfD as the April Fool's tradition is heavily ensconced within the culture of Wikipedia. Doing away with it by MfD is very likely to be heavily contentious and likely DRV'd. --Hammersoft (talk) 20:11, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ah, makes sense. I'm new around these parts! (despite being on Wikipedia since puberty...) Ansh666 20:17, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep There's a difference between fun, behind-the-scenes jokes and actual vandalism. Tolerating the former doesn't mean we have to tolerate the latter. If you don't like it, take the day off. --BDD (talk) 20:13, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Since this seems to have turned serious, I will recluse from using my "torch it in a circle of fire" bit. This is a tradition, and the users who take part are not vandals. I like the idea of limiting to one joke - maybe two if both in userspace only - per user. I've done my one joke, but again, it seems two people at AfD late last nite (EDT, not UDT) don't have a sense of humour. Nothing I can do to help that. CycloneGU (talk) 21:04, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Yikes at some people taking this seriously... Awkward. Zach 21:07, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wonder why! Perhaps they have just lost their sense of humor... ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 23:24, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Because we are supposed to be very very serious folk here. ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 23:24, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, just to throw my (serious) insignificant little two cents in. Ansh666 21:43, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Has anyone notice that today's feature article is nothing but a huge giant question mark? Clearly Wikipedia supports April Fool's Day. Clearly some are so blind to this. Last year "The Onion" had an article featured. Go back to other years to see what happened then to the main page. CycloneGU (talk) 22:15, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - Obviously people are taking this too seriously. There's a difference between rather petty joke XfD/RfX and petty vandalism. We're definitely fooling around with the former, not the latter. Every editor deserves at least a day of fun. ZappaOMati 22:34, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • !Delete as nominator! ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 23:24, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As an alternative, !Redirect to Wikipedia:April Fools/April Fools' Day 2013. ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 23:24, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per many others. People here are far too serious. ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 23:24, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Suggestion to prevent this from happening again (I know this isn't the right place but to probably horribly misuse policy who cares): what if on future April Fools' Days, all joke AfD/MfD/RfA/etc. are marked with {{humor}} by the creator? This will, first, dispel the (rather weak) arguments that users might get confused, and, second, (hopefully) prevent trigger-happy admins from removing them. This has probably been brought up before and/or I'm just crazy, but from a user new to all of this internal stuff I'd say this could be a satisfactory solution to most editors here. Ansh666 00:17, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also, maybe pages which have been joke-nommed before (nominated, not eaten!) get new AfD/MfDs deleted. This prevents pages like Jesus, Earth, etc. from editors trying to beat a dead horse over and over again. Ansh666 01:48, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
wikipedia Afd is already creation protected.... earth was me this year.... unoriginal, I know... -- Aunva6talk - contribs 03:38, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
