User talk:Lugnuts/Editnotice (edit | subject | history | links | watch | logs)

Seems deliberately provocative. Could easily be taken as a personal attack and might scare away people. Beerest355 Talk 20:43, 13 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. I was going to nominate this myself but I noticed it while I was involved in a dispute with Lugnuts in my administrative capacity, so I let it go. It's an outrageous edit notice and contrary to goal of using talk pages to communicate with a user about Wikipedia issues.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:49, 13 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have struck my vote. I don't like the changed edit notice as I don't see why you need a big red stop sign just to tell people to sign their posts, but I don't think that justifies deleting it.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:33, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • An insider joke that will be lost on all editors who haven't seen the movie but instead may be perceived as intimidating is not a good reason to keep the notice.--Bbb23 (talk) 21:28, 13 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not getting a joke doesn't strike me a good reason to delete it either. I can't see how it's a personal attack, and outside of it contravening any actual rule we're simply going to disagree on opinions. GRAPPLE X 21:31, 13 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's OK Grapple, Bbb has a serious issue with me and an axe to grind. He's "too busy" to reply to me directly, but came here straight away... Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 06:29, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete the vast majority who don't get the reference will be highly offended by this message. Imagine the reaction of a new editor who tries to raise some concern and gets presented with this. Editors here have to be able to communicate with anyone, not just people who know them or people who are interested in a certain topic area. Hut 8.5 22:33, 13 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete or at least advise Lugnuts on a more civil edit notice - established editors may get the joke, but a new editor will most likely, if not almost certainly, feel offended by the message. That's a lot of beans, so to speak. hmssolent\You rang? ship's log 02:45, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Close as moot as Lugnuts has removed the problematic EDN. hmssolent\You rang? ship's log 00:38, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Because the person whose page is being discussed can't possibly close the discussion. And just in case anyone brings it up, WP:IAR does not apply. Indeed, just because the nominator withdraws the nomination doesn't mean the discussion is over. Once the discussion begins, it should be closed when a consensus is reached. For example, it helps, that some editors who voted delete have struck their votes. Even I don't feel like I can close it as I voted. I will see if I can get another admin to take a look and decide whether it can be closed.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:31, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
