User talk:Adam.J.W.C.[edit]

Inappropriate, and hence confusing, use of the "New message" flag. -- Alan Liefting talk 12:31, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep It is relatively well settled, rightly or wrongly, that the community disfavors fake "new messages" bars but that the issue will [at least usually] not be pushed. In any event, a user talk page, especially one with a history, and most especially where the user one archives his page only by blanking (which is, of course, entirely permissible but makes the preservation of page history as an archive rather important), ought not to be deleted where there exists only a part thereof that arguably merits deletion. You may, to be sure, ask the editor to remove the "new messages" bar (it's probably a bit indecorous for you to have tagged this for MfD without having mentioned your concerns to Adam.J.W.C.), and you may even remove it yourself—Adam.J.W.C. might, of course, revert you, and I don't know that one can say how that might turn out—but deletion, just as it is not in mainspace a substitute for cleanup, is plainly not the answer. • Delete or just remove the code. Annoying hack. CO 14:26, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Remove the fake new messages bar and keep the rest of the page. Fake message notifications are infantile and bloody annoying, and should be removed as per WP:DICK and WP:DON'TPISSOFFWALTON. :-) However, there's nothing wrong with the remainder of the page's content. • In point of fact, I've just gone ahead and removed it. Provided the user doesn't re-add it, I suggest we close this MfD early. WaltonOne 21:06, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
