The result of the discussion was delete all. Although the content users are allowed to put into their userspace is somewhat lenient, the consensus here agrees that all these hidden barnstar-related pages do not facilitate encyclopedic collaboration or benefit. — ξxplicit 00:53, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

User:Uchiha23/Awards[edit]

This nomination includes:

Delete per the consensus at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Smithcool/Secret Pages.

Delete also per WP:NOTMYSPACE. User subpages devoted wholly to showcasing one's barnstars earned through social networking and playing games are unacceptable and foster an inappropriate ethos.

Because a request for comment at Wikipedia talk:What Wikipedia is not#Does WP:NOTMYSPACE apply to secret pages? concluded that secret pages violate policy, it would be unwise to keep pages that promote the belief that secret pages are acceptable. Cunard (talk) 05:13, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. It is alarming that all of the barnstars on these pages come from finding secret pages and not improving the encyclopedia. Secret page barnstars reduce the value of the real ones. MER-C 10:04, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment these barnstars may contain useful information in finding other secret pages to MfD. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 18:49, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all: For reasons previously expressed elsewhere. These pages don't belong on Wikipedia. --MZMcBride (talk) 21:25, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all Barnstars for editing are one thing. Barnstars should be only given out on Wikipedia as a recognition of an editors dedicated work of building or helping the encyclopedia. However, these pages are littered with barnstars that are not related to anything important or substantial to the wiki. They're barnstars for a game, which subtracts from the main goal here: to build an encyclopedia. I'm not opposed to things such as sandboxes or autograph books, because in a way, they have a way of contributing. These pages filled with game related barnstars do not. • Wholly opposed-Keep all - To the best of my understanding, what you put in your userspace is entirely down to you, so unless it's advertising or shit, I wouldn't touch it. We may not be myspace, but I don't see what is personally wrong with having awards in your user areas. Leave them alone and start deleting stuff which actually matters. - EDIT: I should also take the time to mention that I was alerted to this MFD via an offwiki message from MJ94, whether this counts as canvassing or not, I don't know. You decide. BarkingFish 23:40, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I was just asking the IRC community if they thought this would be acceptable for the encyclopedia or not. I was not trying to saw potential opinions. Sorry for the confusion. MJ94 23:47, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • In response to your edit summary, "opposed, ffs grow up", Wikipedia is "growing up"— maturing—when pages that violate WP:NOTMYSPACE are deleted.

Awards given to editors for building the encyclopedia should not be deleted. These pages, however, serve as trophie cases for those who play games on Wikipedia. As such, they should be deleted. Cunard (talk) 00:00, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong keep-all - This is in userspace; as such it is not subject to AFD criteria unless in extreme circumstances, which this is not Barts1a (talk) 23:53, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak Keep I feel that these user pages can be useful as placeholders for if the users are actually ever given their own barnstars, and that inadvertently, this meets WP:MYSPACE: "... they [user pages] may be used only to present information relevant to working on the encyclopedia." For better or worse, this shows that they are interested in social networking and getting awards from other users... this may not be the best use of the user space, and I may object to much of the content in them, but at least the shell of the pages (a place to display awards) should be allowed even if the user possesses none. Nomader (Talk) 04:24, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • You are correct that WP:MYSPACE applies here in that none of the information presented here is "relevant to working on the encyclopedia". After the pages (which solely contain barnstars that encourage violating policy) are deleted, the users are free to recreate the awards page with awards related to building the encyclopedia. Cunard (talk) 05:52, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I was going to try to labor to make my argument fit into a keep rationale, but the more I think about it, the more my rationale above just feels ridiculous. I'm changing to Delete all. I would like to stress though that users should be allowed to keep award pages even if they're completely empty, but using them simply to store barnstars that only serve to encourage WP:MYSPACE behavior as they have in this case should not be encouraged or permitted.
