It's used several times on a major sports network. I think we can assume that the term is acceptable on the sports world. Since it's a statement about a sports team, I think that the usage by ESPN can be used as a guide of it being hateful or not. --Enric Naval (talk) 19:23, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notice that there is also merchandising with the term, and it's always associated with sport teams (store.chowdaheadz.com/yahaha.html) The Original Yankee Hater Hats (www.wackyplanet.com/yankeehaterhat.html) Yankee Hater hat. Even the most extreme examples of merchandising that could actually be interpreted as hate against north-americans are still associated with "Boston Baseball Gear" (www.cafepress.com/lovemysox/1409023) Yankee Hater Gear, and, given the typefaces and colors being used, they can probably be recognized easily by north-americans as making reference to NYY sport team. --Enric Naval (talk) 19:50, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Delete Even though the link is piped to the New York Yankees, the word Yankee is often used to refer to US residents in general. The userbox could thus be interpreted by some people as "This user hates Americans". Furthermore, I didn't knew this but the article says so, some apparently see yank or yankee as a particularly offensive word. - Face 19:30, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not only the link brings to the sports team, but the letters on the image are also the acronym of that same team. Like Mm40 says above, it's difficult to imagine any actual citizen of the US getting confused over the meaning of this userbox. --Enric Naval (talk) 19:42, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Keep if it said "This user hates members of the Yankees" or "This user hates Yankee fans", then it would be a problem. Hating a team isn't the same thing by a long shot.
