User:TropicalAnalystwx13/Sandbox[edit]

Classic WP:FAKEARTICLE; appears to be 2010 Atlantic hurricane season with the additional of a non-existent storm, which the user has (imo in poor taste) put down as a Category 5, as well as quite a bit of original research.

There's nothing here worth salvaging as 2010 Atlantic hurricane season is far superior than this.

Also of note is that if this page was indeed copied from 2010 Atlantic hurricane season, the user has not attributed any of the contributors to that page so this may technically be a copyright violation. Strange Passerby (talkcontribs) 08:16, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The page is tagged as belonging to Wikipedia:WikiProject Tropical cyclones, so they have been notified as well. Strange Passerby (talkcontribs) 08:26, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Keep To me it appears to have been a test. On his user page, it says that "Its being used for testing my editing skills, and it is not one that needs to be worked on, or moved to another page". YE Tropical Cyclone 15:22, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really understand what the big deal about it is...Its obvious that its not intentionally supposed to be used for anything except an editing page. However, if it will stop this conversation, I'm changing the article to something else...So Keep TropicalAnalystwx13 17:25, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

  • Revision delete the GFDL-violating revisions and keep the current page. The current content is a draft for an article about the upcoming 2011 Atlantic hurricane season. Cunard (talk) 08:22, 21 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • No, it is complete fiction. Delete: wikipedia is not a playground. Cucurbitaceae (talk) 15:56, 21 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Puzzled by that. The current page has no fictional material in it at all; the hurricane names listed are (as I understand it) the names that the National Hurricane Center has indicated will be re-used for the 2011 Atlantic Hurricane season. The draft article listing all 21 available names is not intended to be an indication that there will be 21 hurricanes in the 2011 season.
Also, you've listed the same policy twice :)

  • Comment - as has rightly been pointed out above, this is complete fantasy. I fail to see how this could honestly be called a draft article. StrPby (talk) 23:27, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like Keep is winning. How much longer is this discussion going to carry on? :) TropicalAnalystwx13 00:00, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Seven days in total, plus a little longer if there is a backlog. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 00:04, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Keep, looks like a test. atomic7732 00:02, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is what I don't get though...Why am I the only one having this problem? I know several other people with Sandboxes like mine, yet I'm the only one that is having so much problem with you guys TropicalAnalystwx13 00:15, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

A lot of material that shouldn't be in userspace sits there for a long time if no-one notices it; it's largely down to chance. (See also WP:OSE.) One thing that draws attention to such userspace pages is if they are in mainspace categories that they shouldn't be. So if the other Sandboxes you know of are in such categories, you might want to go fix that as a favour to their owners :) --Demiurge1000 (talk) 01:38, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - Sorry, I have to go with the rules...Just transfer this over to hurricane wikia if you want to keep it. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 00:43, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I changed it back to what I originally had...Anyways:

I am serious here. I am not trying to be the boss and know how you feel, but it is policy at this time. YE Tropical Cyclone 03:53, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. The page has a template right at the top saying "This is not a Wikipedia article: It is an individual user's work in progress page" so it no longer meets WP:FAKEARTICLE. In its current form the page is a draft for the 2011 Atlantic Hurricane season and contains no fictional material at all (it does list the names that the NHC has allocated for re-use for the 2011 season, the re-allocation of these names is factual and is not a fictional pretense that there will be enough hurricanes for all 21 names to be used). Whether the 2011 Atlantic Hurricane season article (which will surely happen) is eventually derived from this sandbox or some other users's sandbox or a combination or neither, is immaterial; it's still a legitimate draft. Also - since when did we get so excited about editing tests in userspace if they're not trying to look like articles? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 09:27, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • Making some storms hurricanes and others tropical storms isn't fictional? Arbitrarily selecting a number of storms to form in the season isn't fictional? StrPby (talk) 12:22, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
      • Did you read what I just wrote and not understand it, or do you just want not to hear it? The 21 possible storm names listed are the storm names allocated by the NHC for the coming season, it is not a projection of the number of storms that will reach hurricane strength, or anything else. I also notice some effort is being made to add references now, which is nice. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 21:19, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed the Hurricane/Tropical Storm problem that we seem to be making a big deal out of. Also, I am not arbitrarily selecting a number of storms to form in the season, I just added all the storm names for this coming season. Frankly, you are making a big deal out of nothing now.
