User:Robbie/Secret Page Challenge[edit]

Yet another hidden page thing. Wikipedia is not a social networking site.

IT DOES MOT VIOLATE WP:MYSPACE--Coldplay Expert 02:04, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be grateful if you could explain how. Go on. → ROUX  02:22, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete See above. It does seem violate it, but do not continue to nominate them individually. ZooFari 02:39, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per WP:NOTWEBHOST. If this is widespread, then perhaps a more general discussion is desirable, but given that this one has been found and nominated, it still merits deletion. --RL0919 (talk) 03:37, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, obviously. Wikipedia is meant to be an encyclopedia, not a toy. Wikipedia is not a webhost, and those who want to use it as one would be better off finding a free webhost. Recently there has been an increase in this kind of thing, with a large number of editors here only to play with Wikipedia, and a concerted effort is needed against it. • Comment I agree with what appears to be the sentiment behind ZooFari's comment: we need to find a way of dealing with these nuisance pages in bulk. However, at present what else should we do other than nominate them individually? is there another method of dealing with them now? JamesBWatson (talk) 07:35, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as content put in someone else's userspace for no good reason. I am not opposed to playthings done by productive wikipedians, but a relative newcomer (User:Robbie0513) playing in User:Robbie's userspace is disrespectful to User:Robbie, or it is unacceptable sockpuppetry. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 08:48, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per WP:UP#Not "Generally, you should avoid substantial content on your user page that is unrelated to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a general hosting service, so your user page is not a personal website. Your user page is about you as a Wikipedian, and pages in your user space should be used as part of your efforts to contribute to the project...games, roleplaying sessions, and other things pertaining to "entertainment" rather than "writing an encyclopedia", particularly if they involve people who are not active participants in the project." Comment I give up. You all win :(--Coldplay Expert 01:46, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per WP:NOTMYSPACE and WP:UP#Games. Secret pages do not contribute to building the encyclopedia. Cunard (talk) 05:47, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Though formerly active, hasn't done anything here since January 09. DGG ( talk ) 05:06, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment The page User:Robbie/Secret Page Challenge was created by one user (Robbie0513) in another user's userspace. There is no rule against this, and there are of course situations where it is appropriate, but I don't see this as one of them. I feel this in itself would justify deletion. JamesBWatson (talk) 12:02, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wait if he deleats the link to the secret page stuff, can the artwork still exist? Its soo good looking.--Coldplay Expert 00:00, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh and can you at least keep the star, for the sake of the users who have it?--Coldplay Expert 00:01, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The artwork seems to be an imitation of the File:Wikipedia-logo.png which could bring up copyright issues (not my area of expertise). As for the barnstar you could Substitute it where you like, and that would keep it on your page after the barnstar gets deleted. But you need to do it while the barnstar is still available (ie before deletion). Deserted Cities (talk) 00:09, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

With all due respect, I think that the logo-artwork thing is a nice addition to the site. Im sure the there would be no problem keeping it.--Coldplay Expert 00:11, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any way of conveying to these people that "I think so-and-so is a nice addition to the site" is not a criterion for keeping anything? It is nothing whatsoever to do with creating an encyclopedia. JamesBWatson (talk) 19:08, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
WP:ILIKEIT is a good start, but Coldplay Expert has some sort of antipathy towards being given links to read as answers to questions. → ROUX  19:19, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
