Same issue as at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Aerobird/CSA Citizen Userbox: Not even the ambiguity of the "Southern culture" excuse, by explicitly associating users with the CSA itself, an entity built to perpetuate the systemic enslavement, rape, and murder of Black people. There's lots of ways to show Southern pride that don't involve supporting that. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 15:50, 20 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak Delete I don't think that this was created with bad intentions, but the Lost Cause narrative was itself meant to intimidate black people. It could seriously hinder collaboration. Scorpions13256 (talk) 20:04, 20 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak Keep - Does not necessarily say the bad things that it often says. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:06, 21 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Now this is a strange argument. Do I understand you correctly? Are you essentially saying "Yes, most of the time they're racist/white supremacist, but not always"?--🌈WaltCip-(talk) 16:08, 21 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete An unrecognized country that existed 4 years is not a legitimate “ancestry”, no more than Nazis, Rhodesia, or Democratic Kampuchea. This is just crypto-apologetics. Dronebogus (talk) 15:13, 21 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom, and per rapidly-building stare decisis regarding divisive userboxes.--🌈WaltCip-(talk) 16:08, 21 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. There are userboxes that are acceptable in terms of both language and intention, and those should used by people of Southern descent; for instance – Template:User Southern, Template:User Southern2 and User:Rogue 9/Userboxes/CSA denied. They are not inflammatory and divisive. On the other hand, the nominated userbox is completely the opposite – it is plainly pro-CSA, and could serve only neo-Confederates. —Sundostund (talk) 19:58, 21 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • delete per nom. Regardless of the intentions behind its creation (or use), we are under no obligation to host confederate signage. Protonk (talk) 21:44, 21 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak Keep. This may be a surprise to anyone who's seen my contributions on articles concerning the War of Southern Aggression (or the userbox of mine that User:Sundostund linked above), but I say this for two reasons: First, it's useful to know where an editor is coming from as they work on related topics; when I see this on several userpages while editing, I know exactly what I'm dealing with and can act accordingly. Second, I use it myself as a marker of my own ancestry (my couple times great grandfather was captured early and cooled his heels in Camp Douglas for the majority of the war), and follow it immediately with another userbox with the flag canceled and a recognition of and opposition to the actions of the Confederacy. I'd be more than happy to give up my own use of it if that's the consensus, however, because the Lost Cause narrative is a scourge. Rogue 9 (talk) 02:32, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep as I don't think this userbox was meant to show "Southern pride". The userbox link itself says "CSA ancestry", its not wrong to state that you had ancestors that were tied to the CSA. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 13:30, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
