The result of the discussion was Delete. Template has already been substituted in its only really applicable location. GlassCobra 17:43, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
There is no reason for this template to exist as only two people would ever have it (legitimately) on their userpage: User:Jimbo Wales and User:Larry Sanger. Anyone else who places it on their userpage is doing so to be disruptive or to blatantly mislead people who may not know any better. As the template can only be used legitimately in two places, it should be deleted. --···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:18, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- Agree. I see it is used on two user pages, where it should not be used. However, the transcluded text can be left on Jimbo's user page. --Bduke (Discussion) 00:26, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- Three userpages, in fact: User:Threeafterthree, User:Zengar Zombolt, and User:DZ987. I agree that transcluding it to Jimbo's page would be best. If Larry ever stops by again and wants to use it, he can copy it from there. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:35, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- Delete. I agree with Nihonjoe; we don't need to provide an automated method for users to make a false claim that they have founded Wikipedia. The template contents can be substed on User:Jimbo Wales, with credit to template creator User:Footyfanatic3000, but all other current uses of this template are inappropriate. — Gavia immer (talk) 00:31, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Strong Keep. This is a WP:POINT nomination to remove the box from my userpage against the consensus of previous discussion.DaiZengarSmite evil 00:40, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- I do not see any discussion there of this template. Using this template is much more serious than claiming more edits than you have actually made. --Bduke (Discussion) 01:07, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- No, it's not. Founder is a meaningless term just like an edit count. It isn't like Admin or Bureaucrat where there are actual Wikipedia powers and responsibilities associated with it.DaiZengarSmite evil 01:11, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- This nomination is exactly what I state it to be above. It wasn't done to make a point, regardless of what you think. Your substitution of the template on your userpage might be considered POINTy, however. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:21, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

- Delete If people want to decorate their user page, they are welcome to use appropriate wikitext. This template, and arguing whether or not it should be used by anyone, is just a distraction from the encyclopedia. The previous discussion mentioned above concerned whether anyone would want to bother preventing a user from transcluding this template (answer: no), and is not relevant to whether the template is actually useful. Johnuniq (talk) 01:41, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- Delete - Sub the contents to User:Jimbo Wales before doing so. Not useful as a template for anyone else. Acps110 (talk) 02:30, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- Delete. We don't need a template that can only be legitimately used by one active user. —Scott5114↗ [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 02:43, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- Comment: Is anyone aware that, by forgetting to surround the mfd box with < noinclude>, Jimbo's user page was categorized for deletion? --Yair rand (talk) 04:21, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- That's a failing of the transcluded template, then. I've fixed it so the category isn't transcluded, but the rest is. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:20, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- Comment: I created this template for Jimmy Wales' userpage but now I see that other users are using it on their own userpages. So yes, maybe it should be deleted, and the text could be copied to Jimbo Wales' userpage. --Footyfanatic3000 (talk · contribs) 17:50, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- Comment We could probably be doing better things with our time than this. In any case, I substituted the template on Jimmy's userpage, so we are free to delete this now. ⇌ Jake Wartenberg 21:07, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, in theory this could be used for any editor who played a crucial part in getting the project on its feet. It doesn't necessarily have to be limited to Jimmy and Larry. –Juliancolton | Talk 04:18, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
- Or could the text be changed to "This user helped to found Wikipedia"? --Footyfanatic3000 (talk · contribs) 17:39, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
- For "founder" to be correct, they would need to be there and play a part in starting the site. There were only two people who did that. "Founder" has a very specific meaning, and broadening it to mean anyone who was around or who happened by after the site was founded is an incorrect usage of the word. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:57, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I guess you're right there. Delete –Juliancolton | Talk 04:32, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
- Delete per nom, a rather superfluous template. JBsupreme (talk) 21:46, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
