Talk:Mersenne Twister/to do[edit]

Talk:Mersenne Twister/to do (edit | subject | history | links | watch | logs)

Orphaned subpage of Talk:Mersenne Twister. Does not meet any of the criteria listed in WP:Subpages. — BillHPike (talk, contribs) 22:19, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Merge and redirect to the talk page, or strain to a talk page archive. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 01:28, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

*Merge and redirect to the talk page. The talk page is where comments about what should be done to improve an article go. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:45, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment – Why redirect? There is only one page that links there that is not related to the MfD, and it appears to be an auto generated list of orphaned pages talk pages. See Special:WhatLinksHere/Talk:Mersenne Twister/to do. — BillHPike (talk, contribs) 02:44, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Becuase it *was* intended for the improvement of Mersenne_Twister. It was linked from the talk page, but with a clever implementation of a “To do” template, the link was corrupted/lost. It is part of the talk page history and must not be deleted. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 06:50, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, sorry, it is transcluded in that template, but the shading confuses things. Clearly, the templates trasnclusion of the old list is too clever, merge to talk page. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 06:53, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I hate to be pedantic, but {{todo}} generates the to-do list subpage by default, not by a clever implementation on this one single page. There are over 7000 pages using it (see Category:Wikipedia pages with to-do lists), and they all have the subpage. If we're going to start merging and deleting this one, we'd really have to do all of them, or it doesn't make any sense. This would be better dealt with as a TfD of that template, or an RfC to change the way the template works in general. Billhpike, Robert McClenon, SmokeyJoe, thoughts? ♠PMC(talk) 03:51, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Premeditated Chaos has a good point. I was not aware of that this page was part of a commonly used template. — BillHPike (talk, contribs) 03:53, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Do nothing. These "To do" lists are bannered prominently at the top of their parent talk pages, with "edit · history · watch · refresh" links. There is nothing wrong here. Fiddling with templates, except for userboxes, is out of scope for MfD. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 04:45, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Then Keep for weird technical reasons. Maybe not everything that looks like it is useless is useless. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:46, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
