Steven Clifford (disambiguation) (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

A recent RM discussion at Talk:Steven Clifford#Requested move 25 June 2019 seems to have established a consensus that each of the three standalone entries — Steven Clifford, Stephen Clifford and Steve Clifford only needs a hatnote that points to the other two entries, rather than a hatnote that points to the unnecessary Steven Clifford (disambiguation) page which has Steven Clifford as the putative WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 04:04, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose – That RM discussion closed with no consensus. I don't see anything there that looks like a consensus to get rid of this disambig page. And as someone pointed out, it would likely be recreated if you got rid of it. What does it hurt to keep it? Dicklyon (talk) 04:42, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There appears to be at least consensus that the two-sentence stub for Wikipedia's sole Steven Clifford is not the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. The nomination at Talk:Steven Clifford#Requested move 25 June 2019 attracted six votes. Three votes (Lugnuts, Gorthian and Paintspot Infez) supported moving the two-sentence stub from Steven Clifford to Steven Clifford (alpine skier) and moving Steven Clifford (disambiguation) to Steven Clifford, while three votes (PC78, JHunterJ and Amakuru) opposed the nomination, but leaned towards the alternative proposal of deleting the dab page and using the already-existing hatnotes atop each of the three articles to direct users to the other two articles, thus obviating the need for the dab page and the designation of a primary topic. If there is consensus in this discussion that there is no need for Steven Clifford (disambiguation), Stephen Clifford (disambiguation) or Steve Clifford (disambiguation) page (the last two are already redirects), then instead of being deleted, Steven Clifford (disambiguation) can be redirected to Steven Clifford and the other two dab pages redirected to their own base names. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 05:56, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not opposed to any such solutions. Just objecting to the statement that a consensus had been found already. Dicklyon (talk) 17:36, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've changed the hatnotes on the three articles so that each one points to the other two. So I think this dab page can safely be deleted. On the other hand, as pointed out above, it doesn't really hurt anything to just leave it, either. Station1 (talk) 06:15, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that in the aftermath of the revisions and adjustments that you've made, it would probably be best to retain the Steven Clifford (disambiguation) page so that the Stephen Clifford (disambiguation) and Steve Clifford (disambiguation) pages can redirect to it. Deletion of any one or all three of these dab pages would simply invite recreation. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 07:34, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
