Unnecessary Fork from Portal:Games, abandoned since 2007. Not supported by a wikiproject. It focuses a lot on chess and video games and nothing in gaming theory. Guilherme Burn (talk) 12:27, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Analysis of Game and Sport Portals[edit]

I am providing page views and other information on Portal:Strategy games, Portal:Games, and comparisons to some other popular and less popular portals on recreational activities. Portal:Video games is an extremely popular portal. Yes, it really has 162 pageviews per day. Perhaps readers who find portals useful also are readers who enjoy video games, and may use a video game portal as a sort of video game in itself. The popularity of Portal:Association football is of course explained by the popularity of the sport itself, but it may also be advanced by the useful feature that the portal has instructions on how to add items to the portal. I suggest that portal advocates take a look at that portal as a way of enlisting readers in portal maintenance. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:49, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Robert, that's very useful. The feature you mention is often used, in different formats, on the Germany regional portals, several of which I've imported and translated. I think that's a key use for a portal, but it doesn't seem to be widespread on English Wikipedia, which is partly why portals have proved problematic.
