Portal:Muppets[edit]

Portal:Muppets (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Dead portal. JJ98 (Talk / Contributions) 21:22, 20 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Question-WP:Portal says "The idea of a portal is to help readers and/or editors navigate their way through Wikipedia topic areas through pages similar to the Main Page. In essence, portals are useful entry-points to Wikipedia content." In what way does this portal not accomplish that goal?--Fyre2387 (talkcontribs) 22:54, 20 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy Keep- No argument for deletion has been presented. There is no rule that says pages can be deleted if they haven't been edited for X amount of time. Reyk YO! 00:28, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reyk: This portal has not had any new content since 2007. Are you suggesting that it doesn't need updating? Also why are you asking for 'Speedy keep' rather than 'Keep'. Can you clarify? --Kleinzach 03:35, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • "Out of date" ≠ "needs to be deleted". Per WP:SK a speedy keep is applicable if the nomination does not make an argument for deletion, and this one doesn't. I don't think I can be any clearer than that. Reyk YO! 03:48, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
      • The argument for deletion is given by the nominator above: "Dead portal". --Kleinzach 01:57, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
        • And that is not an argument for deletion. The word "valid" or "legitimate" preceding the phrase "reason for deletion" is implied by context. Reyk YO! 02:27, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
          • Hmm. I think you are "playing the man not the ball" [1]. --Kleinzach 03:14, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy Keep. To answer Kleinzach's question, until the recent Muppet movie, there really hadn't been anything new to add. This portal meets no requirements for deletion. A well-designed portal doesn't need to be updated all the time or even much at all. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 05:14, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • So with the recent movie it needs updating? Articles have to be kept up to date, portals have to be kept up to date — particularly pop culture content. Right? --Kleinzach 01:54, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't know where this idea comes from. Articles don't get deleted for being out of date, I don't see why portals should be. Any page that can be fixed through normal editing- which is what keeping it up to date entails- is not a good candidate for deletion. Reyk YO! 02:43, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete linked from only one article, not maintained in 4 years. This portal isn't dead, it's stillborn. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 06:12, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • Linked from one article? Not anymore! Ten Pound, I am going to give this portal a resuscitation :) WhisperToMe (talk) 15:29, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep just add links from other articles (like muppet movies, TV shows) There is no current events section, and it's a perfectly good intro. I fail to see why you'd need to update a portal that isn't broken if no events occur that significantly affect the portal's subject. The new movie only recently introduced a possibility of needing to update it. 70.24.248.23 (talk) 07:40, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy Keep, plenty of great relevant content from all over Wikipedia from whence to feed this portal. — Cirt (talk) 20:00, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy Keep WP:NOEFFORT isnt a valid reason for deletion Gnangarra 23:42, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy Keep no reason given for deletion ... why are this editors not spending time trying to contact people/projects to update these portals or do it themselves over spending all this time looking for things to delete.Moxy (talk) 00:30, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Concerning the use of 'Speedy Keep' There seems to be fashion for using 'Speedy keep' instead of 'Keep' or 'Strong keep'. This is incorrect. Wikipedia:Speedy keep explains when 'speedy keep' is appropriate. This says "discussions must meet specific criteria to be speedily kept." Five reasons are listed. --Kleinzach 01:54, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • And one is met. Reyk YO! 02:30, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep no policy-based argument for deletion has been presented. There is no rule I am aware of which requires the deletion of portals simply because they haven't been updated recently. "It's not linked to from articles" is not only false (Template:The Muppets links to it, with 130 transclusions) but even if it were true that's also not a reason to delete it. If it needs more links, add some. Hut 8.5 20:35, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. While this is not an argument for deletion, it's apparent that this portal, like many other portals, is not succeeding in attracting Wikipedia readers' attention. With the release of The Muppets (film) on 23 November 2011, various Muppet-related subjects have received a relatively constant level of traffic for much of the month, increasing during the days leading up to the film's release and then going even higher during the film's first three days of release. You can see this pattern with such articles as The Muppets (film) (over 30,000 hits/day at peak), The Muppets (over 20,000 hits/day at peak), The Muppet Show (over 10,000 hits/day at peak), Kermit the Frog (over 6,000 hits/day at peak), Jim Henson (over 9,000 hits/day at peak), and no doubt others. But Portal:Muppets hasn't even received 50 hits a day on any day in November, and less than 30 hits each day since the movie was released. This illustrates a problem with portals in general -- they don't get a lot of readers looking at them, even if the topic they cover is popular. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 04:30, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This matter is being talked about at Wikipedia talk:Portal#Ideas to increase portal visibility.. Would love to hear from you there.Moxy (talk) 04:39, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The portal wasn't getting the attention of readers because it wasn't posted in all of the places it should be posted - And I am aware about the transclusion in the Muppets-related templates - but that's not enough - it needs to also be at the "See also" places where portals normally go WhisperToMe (talk) 15:37, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom or Userfy. This portal was nominated on 20 November — eight days ago. Since then, not one edit has been made to the page. I agree with Metropolitan90 that a portal on this subject could be popular. If someone is willing to take responsibility, I suggest moving the content to that person's user page for refurbishing. --Kleinzach 03:28, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment: Perhaps you should spend some time improving things such as this portal instead of running around trying to get everything possible deleted. There is no problem with space on Wikipedia, and it's much better to try and improve things rather than going out of your way to get the hard of work of other editors deleted. As others have mentioned to you and Jj98 multiple times, there is no deletion criteria that has to do with something not being current or edited recently. Some things, such as portals, don't actually need to be edited frequently. In this case, I've done a little tweaking of the portal to show you just how easy it is to improve something rather than wipe it out. Perhaps you like to join in and put forth a little effort in that area? ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 08:05, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
      • This edit[2]? An update? I don't understand. --Kleinzach 01:25, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This is something that those unfamiliar with portals should understanding before voting on or nominating them. Portals are made up of subpages - thus meaning the main page may not reflect the true edit history of a portal. See Template:Random portal component as to why main pages dont realy have to be updated all the time. Many changes to portals happen on the main box pages like = Portal:Muppets/Selected article) were newly created pages can be made (in this case yes the main page would have to be update like in the edit history you have linked above). However sometimes people just change out info in a box already there because they are not sure how it all works. Also some portals have boxes that have coding that self update again no need for updates.Moxy (talk) 01:53, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep – No actual rationale is presented for deletion. This is an informative portal that provides another browsing option for content in the encyclopedia. Northamerica1000(talk) 13:03, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - Per previous arguments. Also the portal hasn't been given sufficient visibility, even with transclusion in some templates WhisperToMe (talk) 15:44, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
