Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:Horror fiction
- The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the miscellaneous page below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the page's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this page.
The result of the discussion was: delete Portal:Horror fiction, keep Portal:Speculative fiction/Horror. Deleting Portal:Speculative fiction/Horror would require a discussion about deleting (or at least modifying) Portal:Speculative fiction, as the subportal is integral to the main portal. ‑Scottywong| [spout] || 02:26, 11 November 2019 (UTC)

- Portal:Speculative fiction/Horror (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Two never-updated selected articles from May/June 2014. Five created in September 2008: Three were never updated, one was updated in May 2014, one was partially updated in May 2014.
All five selected bios have not been updated since October 2008. Three of the five selected bios are about horror monsters and villains, not people. Some of these may be violating our Biographies of Unliving People policy.

- Delete, clearly not being maintained (and props to Mark Schierbecker (talk · contribs) for "Biographies of Unliving People" which got a legitimate laugh out of me). Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 09:28, 29 October 2019 (UTC)

- Comment - There are two portals that partially duplicate each other. Portal:Horror fiction is not the same as Portal:Speculative fiction/Horror, which is a subportal of Portal:Speculative fiction on one of its tabs.
- Portal:Horror fiction, the stand-alone portal, had [ https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&start=2019-01-01&end=2019-06-30&pages=Portal:Horror_fiction | 37} average daily pageviews in the first half of 2019, as contrasted with 671 for the article. Portal:Horror fiction (the stand-alone portal) appears to have 20 articles at Special:PrefixIndex/Portal:Horror fiction, but only has 7 because there are 13 empty placeholders, and 5 "biographies". As noted by User:Mark Schierbecker, the articles and biographies do not appear to have been updated since 2014. The portal has a complete set of anniversary dates which means that the forest of subpages occupies two browser pages.
- Portal:Speculative fiction/Horror is a subportal. It had | 5 average daily pageviews in the first half of 2019. At https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:PrefixIndex/Portal:Speculative_fiction/Horror/ it has no articles of its own.
- The followers of Genseric, who avoid partially clothed athletes, have the common sense of the philosophers of the collapsing Roman Empire to attack monsters.
- One portal is a very poorly viewed subportal of a well-viewed portal. The other portal is a poorly maintained but better-viewed stand-alone portal. Perhaps the question should be whether to delete both portals or to merge them onto a tab of a parent portal. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:43, 29 October 2019 (UTC)
Two Horror Portals
[edit]Title | Portal Page Views | Article Page Views | Comments | Notes | Articles | Type | Deleted | Percent | Parent Portal | Baseline |

Horror | 5 | 671 | Created 2010 as subportal of Portal:Speculative fiction. No separate articles. | Literature | FALSE | 0.75% | Speculative fiction | |||
Horror fiction | 37 | 671 | Not the same as Portal:Horror, which is a tab on Portal:Speculative fiction. Originated 2006 by an editor who last edited 2009. There appear to be 20 articles but are 7, and 13 empty stubs. Apparently no updates to articles or bios after 2014, as of 29Oct2019. | Has complete calendar set of dates. Discussion
[edit]- Question - Is User:Nihonjoe willing to oversee a merge of Portal:Horror fiction to Portal:Speculative fiction/Horror? Robert McClenon (talk) 00:31, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- Keep Portal:Speculative fiction/Horror as you can't delete an integrated part of a portal without damaging the whole thing, and Redirect Portal:Horror fiction to Portal:Speculative fiction/Horror. I'm fine merging Portal:Horror fiction into Portal:Speculative fiction/Horror (most of the content on the Horror portal was duplicating what was on P:SF/H, anyway), but the argument that Portal:Speculative fiction/Horror doesn't have subpages is incorrect. All sections of P:SF use parts of the same set of subpages. The portal code used there is somewhat complicated, though, so I'm not surprised TenPoundHammer didn't figure out how it was set up. The portal took me over a year to construct all by myself. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 02:40, 30 October 2019 (UTC)

- Delete or Merge Portal:Horror fiction as unmaintained. Robert McClenon (talk) 14:34, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- Keep Portal:Speculative fiction/Horror as per the statement of the maintainer that it is inseparable from the parent portal. The subportal should not be deleted in the absence of a decision to delete the parent portal, and there does not appear to be any reason to delete the parent portal. It is the exception rather than the rule in portal deletion discussions to get a meaningful response from a portal maintainer that actually addresses the concerns of the nominator. - @Robert McClenon: You need to strike one of your !votes as you can only !vote once. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 16:56, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- Comment to User:Nihonjoe - No, yes. I only get to !vote once on each portal. Those different !votes are on different portals. You probably don't want me to strike my !vote to Keep your portal. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:01, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- Yeah, missed that. Usually people keep it all in one entry. :) ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 18:44, 30 October 2019 (UTC)

- Delete Portal:Horror fiction. It is unmaintained (or at least severely under-maintained) and redundant. The lack of editor interest in maintaining it is shown by Portal talk:Horror fiction, where there has been no discussion (i.e. one editor responding to another) for a decade. Similarly, a search of the archives of Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Horror for "Portal:Horror fiction" give no hits at all: the WikiProject is clearly not interested. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 16:43, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
- Note to closing admin. I don't want in any way to prejudge the outcome ... but if you close this discussion as delete delete Portal:Horror fiction, please can you not remove the backlinks? I have an AWB setup which allows me to easily replace them with links to the next most specific portal(s) (in this case Portal:Speculative fiction), without creating duplicate entries. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 16:46, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

- Delete Portal:Horror fiction per the nom and BrownHairedGirl This junk portal adds nothing for readers that is not found or done better elsewhere, like the head article. Newshunter12 (talk) 02:20, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
