Portal:Country Music[edit]

First MFD, no consensus. Second MFD, "very weak keep" was consensus. After each MFD, the only edits to this portal at all were vandalism reversions. I was going to MFD a third time but then said "screw it," had the subpages deleted and redirected it to the wikiproject. But now that's caused a big complaint every which way, so here we go again.

With that in mind — What do we gain from having a portal that isn't just dead, but stillborn? It wasn't changed one iota since its inception. What good does it do to have a "selected biography" sitting in the same spot for three years, its summary not at all reflecting the hundreds of changes since then? A list of topics that's three years behind? A selected picture that sits in stasis for several seasons?

And let me stress again. This portal WAS NOT EDITED AT ALL after its inception, save for two MFDs and vandalism reversion. It's not just dead, it's stillborn. And yet, apparently someone wants it, as one user got no fewer than six e-mails asking where it went.

I still think that, if you want it so bad, you should, you know, walk the walk and not just talk the talk. Fix it up if you want it so much; otherwise it's just sitting there, wasting the project's (nearly endless) space and doing nothing but pointing to the same dusty old revisions as always, with everybody claiming that it's still alive and shouldn't be buried even though rigor mortis has set in.

Comment - If it was kept the last time and there are at least 6 editors that are interested enough to complain about your replacing the mainpage with a redirect to a dead wikiproject and CSD6ing the subpages, then there is probably good reason to keep it now, also. Since, as you acknowledge, this project's resources are "nearly endless" then I don't see any useful arguement in saying that it wastes resources. The portal probably holds useful categories or something. However, it should indeed be updated: perhaps those 6 editors wish to reactivate it? Considering my experience in the past, about 90% of Wikipedia thinks country music is hillbilly twangy stuff about trucks and dogs, and the other 10% is mostly interested in fine-tuning articles and creating new articles, not caring about the portal. Y'know something, none of what you say is true. We do have people — those who consider country music an art form, and not, as you seem to believe, "hillbilly twangy stuff" — who contribute to the country music and related topics. It does not need constant updating, unlike other portals where new articles are continually added and/or events continually change and require frequent updates. Keep We simply have to update the contents.. a note could simply be posted at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Music..It can be made to look like the other music portals that dont really need updating (unless articles wish to be changes) Examples of a few portals that do not have section needing updating (no news sections that is) ...Portal:Michael Jackson and Portal:Pink Floyd ..I think portals are used more as pages to navigate vast topics,then to show NEW info on topics. I use portals often just to find associated material...i would go so far to say i use them in the same manner as templates at the bottom of pages. So i would propose that we make it a vast page of info (links) to country music much like the very simple but effective Hip hop portal. It does not matter that a few ignorant people associate country music as "hillbilly twangy stuff about trucks" as you put it..the style sells millions if not billions of albums by many many artist and is clearly notable. I personal dont like the style of music, but would expect to find a portal on this very very very vast subject listing what is here!!...

Note current portal is missing all its subpages as they were deleted (without consensus)..So this vote for the current portal is misleading as its missing all the info that was there before!! Note: Sections have been updated the whole page is new after this request was made..This was done as per TenPoundHammer request to talk the talk!! LOL :) More emphasis should be placed on updating articles rather then the lazy way-out of just deleting them!....
