Portal:Agriculture[edit]

Automated pseudo-portal based on two navboxes: {{Agriculture footer}} and {{Agriculture}}. Both are transcluded in the head article Agriculture, making this page a WP:REDUNDANTFORK of the head article.

There is no manual version to revert to. For over 13 years after its creation in 2005, the page was a redirect to Portal:Agriculture and agronomy (which was renamed a few times along the way). Then in January 2019‎, @The Transhumanist converted[1] it to an automated portal.

This is obviously a major topic; agriculture is a Level 2 vital article, i.e. of the top 100 priority topics. So I propose that this portal be deleted without prejudice to recreating a curated portal which is not a WP:REDUNDANTFORK, in accordance with whatever criteria the community may have agreed at that time. PS The old Portal:Agriculture and agronomy currently redirects to Portal:Agriculture. If this page is deleted, the the old Agriculture and agronomy portal should be reverted back to is last live version[2]. Yes BHG and EA, I went ahead and restored Portal:Agriculture and agronomy to its pre-redirected version, and retargeted Portal:Agriculture and Agronomy to it. No need to wait, and I didn't want to get into a situation where deletion of Portal:Agriculture led to a CSD G8 deletion first of Portal:Agriculture and agronomy and Portal:Agriculture and Agronomy, followed by a CSD G8 deletion of all of their subpages. Also removed the tracking cat from Portal:Agriculture and added it at Portal:Agriculture and agronomy. Agree that a move (including all subpages) should follow any deletion of Portal:Agriculture; I will take care of it should that time arrive. UnitedStatesian (talk) 03:26, 26 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Delete - TTH automated portal, built above an old portal, created 2005-10-24 18:39:00 by User:Altenmann. This one is to be deleted, to give space to grow to the other one. Nevertheless, it should be noted that Portal:Agriculture and agronomy was not maintained since 2011, and needs a full revision. Portal:Agriculture. Pldx1 (talk) 15:35, 26 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Delete, though I certainly hope that the Portal:Agriculture and Agronomy will be properly maintained (which seems a tad unlikely given that none of the portals have had any TLC for years). For the info of other editors who may be hesitating, I brought Agriculture and History of agriculture to GA and have no time for automated regurgita-portals which just chop pre-existing straw and lavishly blow it about the fields until somebody notices and switches them off. We're not saying there couldn't theoretically be a decent portal; we are saying that this particular one is quite useless and redundant, and hasn't been maintained for many years, nor does there appear to be anyone around now with the time and skill to do that job. I'm certainly not interested, and I brought the main articles on the topic to GA; and it was hard to find anyone to assist me with that one-off task, let alone the unending work of keeping a portal vaguely interesting and fresh. "Useless" is a matter of opinion; failure to maintain is not a reason to delete; and there is no deadline. Redundancy, however, IS a good reason. I'd prefer redirecting the Ag&Agron portal to this one and sorting out the content through editing, but Wagger's suggestion below is just as acceptable.--Paul McDonald (talk) 11:59, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
