Draft:Johann Pischna[edit]

Draft:Johann Pischna (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Article was created by a problem editor. It is unsourced. The article's title and content is simply incorrect as the Josef Pischna shows. Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:21, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete as an unsourced contribution by a blocked editor. If the subject is sometimes incorrectly referred to as Johann Pischna, then a redirect in mainspace is in order, but that is not the question here. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:41, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, plausibly notable. I added a source. A published author of sheet music for the piano, published in 1972, it is more plausible as a suitable topic. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 22:22, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • But that s an alternate spelling for Josef Pischna. Walter Görlitz (talk) 22:45, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
      • So? Why do you think they are the same person? I think they are 100 years apart. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 23:09, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
        • Good point. Not many composers with a family name of Pischna that have created music. Second, the book may have been published in 1972, but there is no indication that it was not published earlier and this was a way for the publishing company to apply some sort of copyright to the work that is actually in the public domain. Notice that https://www.alfred.com/the-little-pischna/p/00-500/ lists "By Johann Pischna / ed. Willard A. Palmer" yet below it reads "Composed by: Josef Pischna". Similarly at Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/Pischna-Technical-Progressive-Exercises-Schirmers/dp/063401644X, they conflate the two. Either way, there's nothing at the draft to support its notability and should be deleted. Walter Görlitz (talk) 23:38, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
          • Drafts are not deleted for notability reasons. Draftspace exists for topics of unsure notability. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 00:33, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
          • de:Josef Pischna cites "Josef Pišna , sometimes incorrectly described in the literature as Johann Pišna" to So z. B. Willibald Gurlitt, 1961. That's the single thing I can find. It is incorrect with the word "sometimes". I infer instead that Josef Pišna wrote the music, and that Johann Pišna was a relative, eg a son, who published Josef Pišna's music. The music seems always attributed to Josef Pišna, but the publications are often authored by "J. Pišna" or "Johann Pišna". Josef and Johann are different names, both common German/Czech Hebrew names, and highly plausible to be different men in the same family. It is entirely possible that Johann is Josef's publisher.
There is no good reason to destroy this fragment of uncertain information. Do not delete, instead (1) Move to mainspace; then (2) redirect to Josef Pischna. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 01:06, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
            • There is a reason to delete. It is entirely unsourced and conflates the composer with the other individual. However if you think it is a plausible search term, I'll relent but I do not think the editor who created the article should be rewarded, so I will create the redirect now. Walter Görlitz (talk) 03:18, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
              • I don't strongly disagree with that position. The page is harmless, and the "Josef Pischna"/"Johann Pischna" confusion is abundantly evident without keeping this draft. I will record here, as sufficient, to register my theory that the two may be different people but close relatives. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 03:18, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(1) Move to mainspace; then (2) redirect to Josef Pischna. Updated !vote. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 03:18, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
