Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Category talk:Steely Dan members
- The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the miscellaneous page below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the page's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this page.
The result of the discussion was: speedy keep. This is really a nomination of the category, not of its talk page page, so it belongs at WP:CFD.
@User:Vmavanti, if you wish to pursue this proposal for deletion, please open a discussion at WP:CFD. You can do so by using Twinkle, but run Twinkle on Category:Steely Dan members. Using Twinkle on its talk page is what landed the discussion here. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:45, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
There were only two members in Steely Dan: Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. This is a list of sessions musicians who, as their job title suggests, play on sessions for many albums by many musicians. They are not band members. They fill a temporary role. Vmavanti (talk) 13:28, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- Delete. Throughout their career, the duo recorded with a revolving cast of session musicians. They are not 'members' of the band. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 13:36, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- Procedural close as this is the wrong venue: I think the nominator is proposing the category be deleted, in which case WP:CFD is the proper place. In either event, the talk page should follow the category and not be nominated separately. (Point out: in their early years SD was a traditional multi-member rock band before evolving into a duo + session outfit) UnitedStatesian (talk) 13:39, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- Speedy close. User:Vmavanti, please use WP:CFD for category deletion discussions. Note that there are plenty of categories of musicians by band that only have two members and that if this were deleted, there would be no way to navigate to Becker and Fagen from Category:Steely Dan. ―Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 17:50, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you. My mistake.

- Comment - This is an easy good-faith error in using Twinkle and not noticing that one is viewing the talk page rather than the category page. This also happens with templates. If a Speedy Close or Speedy Keep isn't in order, maybe Twinkle should be smart enough to nominate the category at CFD or template at TFD rather than the talk page at MFD.
