What is the dispute?

[edit]

As someone who believes Wikipedia should be completely factual and be a valid resource, I am curious as to why Ckatz has seen it necessary to remove reference to me and my work in the field of voice acting from Wikipedia. My credentials are impeccable, and I am considered by my peers to be an outstanding colleague. To have reference to me removed from Wikipedia makes no sense and does not make Wikipedia a more factual resource. See comments from editor below:

Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia. While objective prose about beliefs, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Ckatzchatspy 00:12, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

What would you like to change about this?

[edit]

I believe my work should be represented on the List of Voice Actors and Voice Artists pages of Wikipedia. Not for promotion, but because the information is valid and relevant to the subject.

How do you think we can help?

[edit]

My inclusion should be made without bias.

Preliminary findings:

Preliminary readings, suggest a breach of two areas of Wikipedia COI. Siting oneself (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest#Citing_oneself) and Self Promotion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest#Self-promotion). Wikipedia COI is quite clear in regards to Autobiographical pieces: "It is not recommended that you write an article about yourself. If you are notable, someone else will notice you and write the article. In some cases, Wikipedia users write articles about themselves when the more appropriate action would be to create a user page. In these cases, the article is normally moved into the user namespace rather than deleted. If you believe you may be notable enough, make your case on the appropriate talk pages, and seek consensus first, both with the notability and any proposed autobiography." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest#Autobiography) Furthermore under Self Promotion, "Biographical material that does not significantly add to the clarity or quality of the article." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest#Self-promotion)

It does appear that the edits made by 74.246.26.48 do indeed represent a COI in regards to Wikipedia's COI policies. However, in an attempt to be fair, I am awaiting arguments from both parties before making a final determination.

Please have arguments posted on or before 01//16/11 Btwoodward (talk) 18:13, 2 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Remember: an editor with a self-evident interest in the matter turning up on the talk page is an indication that they are playing it straight. Even if the changes they advocate are hopelessly biased, treat them with respect and courtesy, refer to policy and sources, and be fair" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest#How_not_to_handle_COI)

Discussion

[edit]

Thank you for your time and consideration.

However, it should be noted that several persons have tried to include me on the List of Voice Actors page and the posts were deleted.

I would also like to know why there are persons in my industry who are included on the Voice Actors page and List of Voice Actors whose credits are seriously inferior to mine. This is difficult to understand.

For instance, imagine an article on guitar players where a guy from a local bar is included but, for some reason, the Wiki editor decided not to include Eric Clapton or Jimmy Page. If you Google my name as a voice artist, you will see MANY, MANY credits. However, there are actors listed in the Wiki articles (List of Voice Actors and Voice Acting) who have done very little notable work. So, if Eric Clapton edited a Wiki article to include his contribution to rock as a guitarist, would that not be "self-promotion?"

At this point, I really don't care if I am included on Wiki or not. If I were an editor of Wiki, however, I would be very careful regarding deleting credible information and deleting reference to persons who are noted in their field(s).

And, that's what I have to say.
