Request Information[edit]

Request made by: Ideogram 02:42, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Where is the issue taking place?
programming languages
Who's involved?
Primarily myself and User:Derek farn
What's going on?
Derek farn is reverting changes without discussion, including sarcastic edit summaries, and most recently said "I think this article is current under siege by a few people with a small amount of knowledge and an unwillingness to spend time reading up on this subject."
Am I reverting changes without discussion or is Ideogram making ill considered changes without knowledge of the subject? The discussion and history log is available for people to read and make up their own minds. Derek farn 09:23, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My knowledge is not at issue here. Your behavior is. Ideogram 21:50, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Derek has also acted aggressively towards new contributors, see User talk:EngineerScotty#Programming language. Ideogram 03:53, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would recommend that people click on the link User talk:EngineerScotty#Programming language to see how reasonable my comment was. Derek farn 09:23, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Note: this case is no longer about Derek farn. I am now having a dispute with another user who keeps accusing me of WP:POINT and is unable to assume good faith. Ideogram 09:07, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What would you like to change about that?
I would like to return to an atmosphere of collegial respect.
I would like my opponent to be reminded to assume good faith. Ideogram 09:07, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you'd prefer we work discreetly, how can we reach you?
...
Would you be willing to be a mediator yourself, and accept a mediation assignment in a different case?

No.

This is, following the Categorical Imperative, the idea that you might want to do
what you expect others to do. You don't have to, of course, that's why it's a question.

Mediator response[edit]

Folks, I've looked through the history of this article and it looks to me like a relatively simple disagreement over what should be in there. This will be easily solved if everyone takes a step back, a deep breath and approaches things in a different way. Rather than making edits to the article, if you spot something you want to change, post your proposed edit to the talk page and discuss it between you all, then when you've agreed, make the edit to the article. That way everything is discussed and sorted out without having to rely on edit summaries to explain what you're up to.

Give that a try, and I'll keep an eye on things. Kcordina Talk 09:48, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since messages concerning the status of cases temporarily cannot be listed on the case page, what is the status of this case? Does it need a new mediator? Cowman109Talk 21:48, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think you can close this case. Ideogram 23:43, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Closed per Ideogram's request on IRC. CQJ 20:54, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Evidence[edit]

Please report evidence in this section with {{Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Evidence}} for misconduct and {{Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Evidence3RR}} for 3RR violations. If you need help ask a mediator or an advocate. Evidence is of limited use in mediation as the mediator has no authority. Providing some evidence may, however, be useful in making both sides act more civil.
Wikipedia:Etiquette: Although it's understandably difficult in a heated argument, if the other party is not as civil as you'd like them to be, make sure to be more civil than him or her, not less.

Compromise offers[edit]

This section is for listing and discussing compromise offers.
