Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Orangemoody/Accounts

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Background

[edit]

The accounts listed on this page are all verified socks that are interrelated, as evidenced by both Checkuser data and editing behaviour and patterns.

The socks all exhibit at least one of the following behavioural traits:

  • ”Article creation” socks create articles in draft space or user space mainly based on submissions to Articles for creation or user space drafts that had been declined or deleted, or articles that had been added to article space and deleted as being too promotional. These articles do not give proper attribution to the original authors. There are occasional variations to this process. Most of the articles created in this way have been moved to article space; a few are still in draft or user space.
  • ”Helper” socks will usually complete a series of useless edits in order to be autoconfirmed. They then continue making gnoming-type edits that will periodically include the addition of spammy external links. Some of these socks also participate in Page Curation, and they will “mark reviewed” articles created by the other socks.
    • Examples of “useless edits” include adding {{italictitle}} or wiki-linking words like Asia and United States, or making minor formatting changes.
  • The groups are not entirely distinct and some socks have acted as both article creators and helpers.

The accounts are being blocked. The blocks are performed by EgressBot using a standardized block summary and user talk page template, so that reviewing administrators and editors will be able to identify that they are part of this group. A copy of the block summary and template is posted below. It will take the blocking bot approximately an hour to complete all of the blocks; if for other behavioural reasons an administrator needs to block any of the accounts in the interim, the block will be superseded by the bot with the applicable summary and template. The same will apply to any accounts that have already been blocked.

Unblock requests

[edit]

Unblock requests can be brought to the attention of checkusers; this can be done by posting a link at the SPI talk page.

List of users

[edit]

Users that have been completely checked for edits should be marked with {{Check mark}}, in order to let other users know that they do not have to go over their edits again. This will also prevent duplication in effort, and make things more orderly.

If you have checked for edits in other languages, you can also remove the {{SULcheck| }} template.

Reviewers are encouraged to correct bad edits, such as insertion of unnecessary templates, {{italictitle}} insertions, and excessive internal linking.

The below list continues on Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Orangemoody/Accounts/2. It was split as the number of templates on the page surpassed the technical render limit of Wikipedia.

Definitely not good-faith editor. See many instances of his name at WP:COIN. — Brianhe (talk) 19:05, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I picked this one up on Elance a long time ago. Asked them to disclose which they did for a bit and then stopped. They also copied and pasted a lot. See COIN for the diffs. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 20:02, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I also concur. They denied being paid for Bosch Sensortec even when it was basically a copied and pasted press release [1] (and still is). SmartSE (talk) 20:15, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so; see WP:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard/Archive 83#Footwearspecialist There's additional concerns that I've emailed offline to Smartse. — Brianhe (talk) 19:05, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed some missed wikilink-spamming from this account. -- œ 13:04, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am having trouble navigating and commenting on this page and I am not an administrator. Though the edits done by this user appear harmless, after following the many wls inserted into various articles my impression is that this editor is promoting an organization called Magic Circle. I followed up on the wls to biographies of living persons who are claimed to be members of this organization when in fact no such association exists on the so-called 'members' article pages. Prince Charles(!) is listed as member but so far none of the others are identified as members of the Magic Circle by any of the references or by a referenced citation. In addition, the article Magic Circle claims to have members in forty countries with no citation for this statement. I will go back and edit accordingly, but is evident to me that if the Orangemoody editors are doing their 'job', then one of their customers must be The Magic Circle. Addendum: There is a Magic Circle template(!) that seems to have been created but not explicitly connected to the user in question. The template lists the past recipients of a Magic Circle award BUT there is no mention of the recipients 'Seigfied and Roy' ever receiving the award. This template is being used as a 'quasi' reference to back up the unsupported claim that these performers are/were members of the Magic Circle.   Bfpage |leave a message  21:46, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
