signature with obsolete html element problem

[edit]

Should i use a bot or AWB to replace my signature element <font> that i had signed over past 12 years? I saw some user to do so claiming it will affect surrendering text. (My old and new code are located here User:Matthew hk/sign). Matthew_hk tc 07:38, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Matthew, I don't know whether it's necessary for you to actually change your past signatures. I've not noticed any script in your (past or present) signature that can affect the way in which text is rendered on the page. Also, while I may personally see both past and present signatures as a bit heavy on the eyes, it's not something I'll crib about. Thanks, Lourdes 08:11, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Asking for personal opinions.

[edit]

Hello. What is the place to ask Wikipedians for personal opinions? (Example: Somebody tried sharing a cracked phone screen using a screenshot) --Alxx32 (talk) 08:45, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know but perhaps the reference desk could be what you're looking for. As the legend at the top of this page mentions: "This page is only for questions about how to use or edit Wikipedia. For other types of questions, use the search box or the Reference desk." Feel free to come back here for any further guidance. Thanks, Lourdes 11:22, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The reference desk is for research, questions of fact, and asking for sources, not personal opinions. To answer OP, Wikipedia is not a social networking site, so what you want to do might not be appropriate for Wikipedia, but I guess you could always just email a user or post on their talk page. I for one am always more than happy to chat about anything. I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but perhaps an off wiki site, such as reddit.com/r/wikipedians might be more what you're looking for. Benjamin (talk) 11:30, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Shubrodt; did you meanShehzad Sheikh, whom we do have an article on? Although, I note that it claims that he is actually a Pakistani actor :) — fortunavelut lunaRarely receiving (many) pings. Bizarre. 10:25, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The actor Shehzad Sheikh is from pakistan, hence i specifically mentioned "Shehzad ShAikh" but i beleive the link of shehzad shaikh which was deleted and recreated should be the one which was quite accurate you may verify by the google search "shehzad shaikh" specifically . instagram profile @shehzadss imdb profile shehzad shaikh (for bankster and qubool hai)

he has been mentioned in qubool hai as well as the main cast lead and has various articles published on wikipedia relating to him. would request your attention on this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shubrodt (talkcontribs) 17:36, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikinews

[edit]

Has Wikinews ever been cited as a source on Wikipedia? Benjamin (talk) 10:23, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it has been, but such use of an open wiki as a source is contrary to WP:SPS. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:32, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I mean, has it been cited, and kept, and not reverted? And I'm not too familiar with Wikinews, but isn't it peer reviewed? Benjamin (talk) 10:33, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The search insource:"en.wikinews.org" finds around 150 current examples. It's problematic per Wikipedia:Verifiability#Self-published sources but we have 5 million articles and limited oversight. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:37, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dounlowdable sources

[edit]

I found a good, reliable source that's not online, but can be freely downloaded by a webpage. There's a recommended way to point out, in the reference text, where a source can be downloaded from (maybe using a CS1 template)? 93.57.255.93 (talk) 23:02, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

As long as the citation is solid, I'd say it's not our job to steer the reader to a particular source of that information. Remember: there is not and probably never will be, a rule that all citations must be verifiable online. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:16, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
