How can I fix these templates so they work? --TheShadowCrow (talk) 01:42, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I was just about to go to bed when I saw your question. Wikipedia:UBX is a good resource to start with, you may also check out how I did it on my user page. If you still can't get it to look the way you want, and no-one here beats me to it, I would be happy to help you tomorrow morning. (I'm a member of WP:WikiProject Userboxes, and love the things. ) Technical 13 (talk) 01:54, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't realize how long that page was (as are many of the WP: pages).. I think the specific section you may be looking for is this one Happy editing Technical 13 (talk) 01:55, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In your specific code, if you remove the userboxes from the {{usbk}} template (for example, instead of writing {{usbk|User:Example/box}}, just write {{User:Example/box}}), it works fine. Scarce2 (talk) 01:56, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I figured ok how to activate all the boxes. Thanks to both of you. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 21:34, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Creating a disambiguation page for Elizabeth Bacon

[edit]

There are at least two articles on Wikipedia concerning people named Elizabeth Bacon. The first is on an Elizabeth Bacon Custer [1], and when one types Elizabeth Bacon into the Wikipedia search window, a redirect takes one to that article.

There is also another article entitled Elizabeth Bacon (died 1621) [2] which I created a while ago, but people typing Elizabeth Bacon into the Wikipedia search window won't find that article, but will be sent by the redirect to the article Elizabeth Bacon Custer.

I think a disambiguation page for Elizabeth Bacon would be useful, and any help with setting one up would be much appreciated. NinaGreen (talk) 03:31, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If there's only two articles, a disambiguation page isn't really necessary. Just put a hatnote at the top of the Elizabeth Bacon Custer page like this:
{{Redirect|Elizabeth Bacon|the daughter of Sir Nicholas Bacon|Elizabeth Bacon (died 1621)}}
Scarce2 (talk) 04:14, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I've added the hatnote. NinaGreen (talk) 05:03, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article Innacuraries Regarding General Jesus Gutierrez Rebollo

[edit]

Hello, I write to you because i would like you to correct some information that is incorrect about my father on your page. My name is Jesus H. Gutierrez Rebollo Priego, and i am the son of General Jesus Gutierrez Rebollo: There are many innacuracies in this article which i could prove with copies of sentences and court documents if you wish. 1. My father is a RETIRED GENERAL of the Mexican Army, not a former general of the mexican army. 2. His name is Jesus Hector Gutierrez Rebollo, not Jose de Jesus Gutierrez Rebollo 3. I understand that he has had a judicial process however i would appreciate that due to his 40 years of service not only to Mexico but also to the fight against drug trafficking, you would remove the term CRIMINAL from the page.

I visit your page very often and am an admirer of the work you and your company do, I have just made a donation myself and do so every year. I ask for some consideration, and would be willing to support all lthe above mentioned with birth certificate, court documents (in which the rank was returned to my father in 2002) along with any other information. I appreciate the attention and would be very grateful for your help. I would not like this to become a case of defamation of character as I am an american citizen and have contacted my lawyers regarding this matter. below is the link to the page in which the article resides along with my contact information. Thankyou again for wikipedia and for all you do. Best, - Jesus H. Gutierrez Rebollo Priego

Issues with Ezhava Article

[edit]

There are some administrators and editors in wikipedia using sanctions to slaughter innocent contributors. I came across an article (Ezhava) a couple of months ago and realised it has got many issues with its neutrality. As per wikipedia rules I started talk with an edit request in the talk page, the request was declined and asked to provide a reilable source WP:RS, I have provided reliable source but its been rejected again. After months of discussion in the talk page i have place a POV Tag. During the discussion i have produced reliable Primary Reference, Secondary References and Tertiary References but the main editor called Sitush is a veteran and no admins are ready to question him. He just rejects the reliable sources by saying "Not Reliable". I have contacted WP:RSN to check the books and they said the books are reliable. I have noticed many of the Caste Related articles are being vandalised by this editor.

Now, a group of admins ganged up and blocked me for 3 days and the POV Tag i had placed in the article was removed. It is completely against the wikipedia rules. It is very unfortunate that no admins questioning the actions of the editor who removed POV Tag before coming to a consensus in the articles talk page.

They frequently asking me on my talk page to go and edit or create other less contentious article. Why they are stopping me ?. Would you please have a look the articles talk page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Ezhava)

I questioned an admin for misusing Caste Sanctions warning, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents#Boing.21_said_Zebedee. and they said WP:BOOMERANG but i am sure that i didnt do anything wrong. Reporting an incident in WP:ANI thats what i did wrong ! if that is wrong then what is the meaning of WP:ANI

I was only trying to fix article issues by discussion, wasnt vandalising or doing any disruptive editing and also didnt even edit the above mentioned article, but the reason for block was "Disruptive Editing"

No one thee to ask or do anything. some administrators misusing their privilages and continuously giving threat on my talk page. Very helpless situation there, Dont know I will get blocked for posting this here. irajeevwiki talk 06:02, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

According to the note at the top of the talk page, the article deals with a very contentious subject, and admins are authorized to issue sanctions. Based on the length of the discussions on the talk page, I would echo the advice to find a less contentous article to work on. RudolfRed (talk) 06:31, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It is a contentious article just because the way it has been written. If you look at the talk page those people who request to change the article content are other contributors, only one editor is supporting the existing article and administrators are giving support to him. irajeevwiki talk 07:13, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As an uninvolved observer with no previous knowledge of this case until I followed your links, all I can see is a highly charged POV dispute in which you have been offered advice and support, and a fair amount of leeway, by some very experienced and patient editors and admins, none of which seems to have sunk in. WP:Forum shopping is unlikely to help. I would also reiterate the suggestion to develop your policy knowledge and editing skills in less contentious subject areas, at least for now. - Karenjc 10:01, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have been participating in discussions on the article talk page and on related user talk pages, I am sorry to say that the editor (Rajeev) who has brought this up has less than adequate understanding of the basics of Wikipedia viz. wp:RS, wp:OR and the like. I have not been involved in adding or removing content to the article in any major way (one edit) so that makes me an un-involved editor. I was one of those editors who appealed to Rajeev that he stay away from contentious issues as long as he learns the ropes here, he reports that he was blocked after a AN/I he brought up against Zebedee boomeranged, it was Zebedee who in a good faith gesture unblocked him. It is unfortunate that Rajeev is bringing the issue up here. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 15:22, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Original content differs from other online data

[edit]

I have edited biographical text about Peter Rafelson and yet the madbot still is suggesting it is too close to info online. To what degree does the article need to differ from similar information online in order to be approved? — Preceding unsigned comment added by RM Records (talkcontribs) 06:58, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Do WP:PARAPHRASE and WP:CV help? Essentially, source text must be completely rewritten in a contibutor's own words. Direct quotes and close paraphrases can be used to a limited and reaonable extent within original article text, but require attribution to the original source. - Karenjc 08:15, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Potentially libelous material

[edit]

Potentially libelous material at Chornousov Ivan Yakovych, what should be done about this?

Gold Standard 08:06, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You can't libel the dead, so unless the subject is still alive and extraordinarily old, WP:BLP can't be invoked. It's a lousy article without English language sources, and it has been proposed for deletion - comments for and against the proposal can be made on the article's talk page. - Karenjc 08:27, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The absence of English sources is not relevant to it's proposed deletion - see WP:NOENG. Roger (talk) 10:53, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Gold Standard 17:23, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's not a direct criterion for deletion, but the lack of any English language sources makes it harder to tell whether the subject satisfies WP:N and the wording in question WP:V and WP:NPOV. These will affect the outcome of the deletion discussion. - Karenjc 22:27, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Noted Binghamtonian

I was surprised while reading about Binghamton that no mention was made of a contractor that built so many buildings in and around Binghamton. His name? Edward L. Nezelek His Company? Edward L. Nezelek, Inc. The Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena and several building on the Binghamton University Campus and the Binghamton YMCA were only a few of his accomplishments. He died August 21, 2011. He was often touted as the "Man who built Broome County". I thought there would be some mention of him somewhere. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.191.68.47 (talk) 14:44, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you have some reliable sources, you are welcome to add him to the article. Alternatively, you could make a suggestion on the article's talk page (Talk:Binghamton, New York if that's the particular Binghamton you're talking about) where an editor with more knowledge of the subject than most of the people here is likely to see it. --ColinFine (talk) 22:18, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Consistency between work and publisher parameters in citation templates

[edit]
 – – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 18:49, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Will there ever be consistency between the work and publisher parameters in citation templates? Every Featured Article I've seen has website names in the publisher parameter of a citation template. This keeps the website from being italicized. However, {{cite web}} states that the work parameter is specifically for websites, and when using the auto-template form (not sure what to call it—appears in the edit window when you click on "Cite > Templates > Web"), the little question mark above the work parameter also states that this is for websites, which means that most people will follow this advice, since more people see the auto-template form advice than anything demanded by FA criteria. This seems to be a conflicting way of citing websites, and I'm wondering if, or what, steps have been taken to try to standardize the work/publisher parameter definitions. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 17:37, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've never done AfD pages, but the few that I looked at just now have some sort of template at the top that yours seems to be missing. Maybe if you added that template, the index will fix itself. Also, the index seems to include the text you put on the RfD page, so your big wall of text will show up there. For examples, look at the two entries right above and below yours: Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Peter_Chadha and Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Il_Mio_Miracolo_(You_Are_My_Miracle). Hope this is enough to point you in the right direction. RudolfRed (talk) 00:03, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, adding that template did help with the log index (when I have done AfD's before, it was automatically added) but I still would appreciate it if anyone can tell me how to add a category to the discussion page(again, when I did it before it automatically gave you various categories to choose from, this time it did not.)Smeat75 (talk) 00:24, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
