The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the media below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the media's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the discussion was: keep as meeting WP:NFCC#1 as a free photo is not possible to replace this phot depicting the subject performing the deed that made him notable. Whpq (talk) 01:07, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

File:Captain Tom Moore fundraising walk.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Tabletop123 (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

This is an image that is used in an infobox to provide a visual representation of the now-deceased Tom Moore. While fair use images for non-living persons in infoboxes are sometimes OK, they're generally only allowed when no free images of the person are known to exist. In this case, however we have several images of Moore on Commons (including these portraits) that are in the public domain. As such, this violates WP:NFCC#1, since there are free photos that can easily replace the present use of the photograph in the article's infobox. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 02:45, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - absolutely, there is no need for a fair-use image here. @Ixfd64: why did you reverse your closure? This should be deleted.  — Amakuru (talk) 15:49, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It was restored by another admin following a request at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion. I updated the result to avoid confusion. Ixfd64 (talk) 16:40, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Oh OK, thanks.  — Amakuru (talk) 17:47, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per arguments made at Talk:Captain Tom Moore/Archive 2#Photograph. • Keep per my 2021 arguments. The historical photos are not an adequate/"reasonably close" replacement for the 2020 photo which depicts him relevantly to his notability criteria. BlackholeWA (talk) 21:50, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • The problem is the article the non-free image is being used for is a biography of the person. While I appreciate that his notability for a bio is from the fundraising walk, the article isn't "Captain Tom Moore fundraising walk". As a bio, we want a portrait image of the person, and we have (more than one) free image of the person. Now that he's no longer alive, that's both a positive and a negative to having non-free image. On the plus side, we can no longer "just take an image of the person" (however likely that is in practice). On the minus side, we tend to want a recent image of a person when they're alive, but less so after their death when we're happy with choosing the best portrait of the person which could be from their (relative) youth as opposed to when they're old and wrinkly. All in all, I lean on the side of we have a free portrait image of the subject, so using a non-free image violates NFCC#1, but I appreciate enough the argument about the nature of his notability that I'm not dead set on it. -- KTC (talk) 22:34, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - He isn't known because of anything in his earlier life, he's known because of something he did as an older man which the photograph best shows. Sure the article is about his life in general but we all know he has an article entirely because of the fundraising. I understand that usually an different photo would be used but I don't think it makes sense for this article. Collinanderson (talk) 00:16, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per the points made above and the several times they have been made previously. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:16, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fails WP:NFCC#3a in its use in the current article. The current article also contains a second non-free video of the battery room, control room, etc. in the file File:Tehachapi Energy Storage Project-B-Roll Video.ogg. Articles are required to use the minimum number of non-free items required, but the use of this two-minute-long video where a one-minute-long B-roll video accompanied with an explanation of the facilities in our own words could be used instead seems not consistent with this principle (nor that of WP:NFCC#1, which requires that no free equivalents exist).

I'm also skeptical of using this in light of WP:NFC#CS; I think that we're able to identify the subject of the article (i.e. the energy storage project) without a two-minute long narrated video tour of the inside with music playing in the background. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 03:15, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sample unneeded. Song title and band name already suffice as guides for users seeking full recording. Furthermore, the sample's contextual significance to I Believe (Bon Jovi song) insufficiently or not proven yet. George Ho (talk) 03:17, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Keep: I've added some context about the sample that's stated in the article, so it should be good for now. ResPM (T🔈🎵C) 13:09, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A YouTube video that you cited to verify what you added just now is no longer available. Do you know another source that can verify it? --George Ho (talk) 14:05, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Of course it's dead... Typical. No, I don't have another source, and when I tried searching for quotes, all I got was a bunch of Wiki mirrors. I guess without the proper sourcing, I'll have to support a delete for this one. ResPM (T🔈🎵C) 14:26, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

File:Sinu - Masterpiece demo version.ogg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Corriejunior (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

This is a one-minute video that is being used for the purpose of providing an audio sample of the song "Sinu" in the article Masterpiece (band). In line with WP:NFCC#3, I believe that the file need not be nearly as long as it is, but I also don't see how the video aspect of this file is actually in any way contributing to the article; the image doesn't appear to be the subject of sourced commentary. As such, the file should be deleted, though I have no objections to someone uploading a shorter audio-only file. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 03:41, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There is a freely licensed high-resolution image that contains the logo, albeit in different colors. I believe we could extract the logo from that image and use that instead. Ixfd64 (talk) 22:24, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
