This is claimed to be a screenshot of TikTok, nut is in fact multiple screenshots put together and distributed in a press release. The use of multiple screen images in one file fails WP:NFCC#3b. Whpq (talk) 01:02, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, who in the world replaced my screenshot of the "Discover" page on TikTok with these images. There are multiple copyrighted elements, and because it is the app, not the videos, that are the subject of commentary, we need to show contents of the app. I am going to revert the reupload and maybe this can be speedy closed. Now that is a complete different issue. The file is now scheduled for dated deletion because that same author decided to upload an almost identical screenshot with higher resolution, failing NFCC3 again. I don't care if any of the automated deletion processes happen now, but that identical screenshot is of a significantly higher resolution. I do not want to be biased or anything for any screenshot. The issue is fixed again by undoing the addition of the high-res image. Can an admin take care of speedying that image? A a s i m 15:58, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: Since I have reduced the image to a low enough resolution in accordance with WP:NFCC#3, the only discussion now would be which image has more merit and is more suitable for inclusion in the TikTok article. My rationale for retaining and using File:TikTok screenshot.PNG is that: Firstly it is more up-to-date, taken today as opposed to File:TikTok app screenshot.png taken on 14 July 2019, therefore better reflecting the current version of the app. Secondly it contains two full rows of video thumbnails in the screenshot, as opposed to one and a half in File:TikTok app screenshot.png, possibly due to newer smartphone screen sizes as well. Delete the older file and Keep the newer one. Using the latest version of an app's layout helps keep it up to date. Well the older file isn't going to be the one taken and uploaded yesterday. I'd like to remind both of you, Awesome Aasim and ErithKent that nobody owns content here on the wiki. Aasim, you seem very reluctant to have the file you uploaded be removed from the site, which is understandable. However both images are being used via fair-usage policy and both show the same app. But one file is more relevant and up-to-date. Asking me which I meant (when it is pretty unambiguous) just suggests to me you want to try and keep your name attached to this file come what may. @ErithKent you know you can replace the upload by, well, using the "Upload a new version" tool. I have a feeling you already know this because you replaced my uploaded file with a less minimal version. I wonder if that may be more viable as it gives credit to the original uploader and the new uploader for finding the non-free screenshots. That would be a lot better than having many new redundant files. I know we are Wikipedia, and no one owns content on Wikipedia. I remember a while ago I uploaded a screenshot of some game's gameplay, but I did it under a different filename because it was a screenshot of gameplay, and the image that replaced it was just a non-free image of the game's main menu screen.

For future reference, when there is more than one article using a non-free image, that would be a lot more viable than uploading a new image under a different name. I have no opinion as to what should happen to either my image or the new image. I mean, they are fundamentally identical, except they are showing different content because the screenshots were taken in different countries. But the "out of date" problem is not solved by simply uploading a different region's "discover" page. I think for now I cannot object to deletion of my file per the NFCC but we should have a follow-up discussion as to which region's screenshots should we use for the TikTok app. A a s i m 19:05, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The region shouldn't exactly matter. If the UI is the same for different regions, the only thing that would change is whose content is displayed. The newer file contains very few extraneous elements and is a lot cleaner than the older file. For the time-relevance, I hold a firm belief that depictions of an application reflect the most current version, and whilst not much has changed between the two screenshots, there could be subtle nuances which lend credit to the newer file. Additionally, I'm not aware of either file being used in multiple articles, and the paragraph on a new version and crediting the original author sounds rather close to an accusation of some sort. Comment: I have spotted File:TikTok by Solen Feyissa.jpg, which is under a free license and is currently being used in the TikTok article. Does this change the status of both non-free screenshots with respect to WP:NFCC#1? Although I think they could be deleted under the same (and thus tagged for deletion with {{subst:orfur|[[:File:TikTok by Solen Feyissa.jpg]] exists under a free license}}), the free image does not reproduce the non-free screenshots and thus may not qualify for the same.
