File:APTIS Tickets x6 - Variations on LONDON.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Hassocks5489 (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

The file shows 6 rail tickets in order to show the variation on "London". However, as stated in the fair use rationale, only the double arrow symbol is copyrighted in the UK. It is therefore possible to crop out the required station names, and upload them to Commons. The file will therefore be a violation of WP:NFCC#3b, and should be deleted 廣九直通車 (talk) 04:18, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment Commons has lots of high-resolution images of Rail tickets of the United Kingdom, e.g. File:Benkid77 Upton-Shrewsbury Rail Ticket.jpg. The double arrow logo seems to be regarded as ineligible for copyright - there is even a category for them Commons:Category:British Rail double arrow. Based on that, I don't think this is a copyright violation at all (and therefore not an NFCC violation either). Its worth noting though that the image quality is too low to actually show clearly the variation on "London" and so if it was to be used under the NFCC it would, in my opinion, fail point 8. • Thanks, I just quote some statements from the fair use rationale. By the way the UK have a very low threshold of originality, so I'd better to check whether the double arrow sign will be copyrighted in the UK.廣九直通車 (talk) 06:33, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • Commons is way more paranoid about copyright violations than the English Wikipedia is, and their rules state that a file needs to be free in the USA and the country of origin whereas on Wikipedia all that matters is that its free in the USA. The rail transport categories on Commons are among the best maintained, so if there was any doubt about the copyright status there is no way the files would be there still. Both images are used at the article "Do Ya Do Ya (Wanna Please Me)". I was close to PRODding one image, but then I found out that both images were used widely for their own respective editions, 7-inch and 12-inch. If one of the images fails to comply with WP:NFCC#3a and WP:NFCC#8, then I think the 12-inch cover should be deleted. One image of the singer facing the camera with her head tilted to an acute angle would be enough. Also, the album version of the song was released into the 7-inch release. However, I don't know other people's preferences on these covers; opinions are welcome. George Ho (talk) 05:57, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Is this really copyrightable in Ireland? I mean it's just a 3, an "e" and a circle. Jonteemil (talk) 07:33, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
