Tagged as CC-BY 3.0, but there is no evidence of that. At the time of upload, the source website contained the statement: "The Institute of Cetacean Research (ICR) is the global copyright holder of all media contents on this website. The ICR welcomes media organizations to reproduce photographs and other material from this website on the condition that all reproductions used for newspapers, television, websites and other visual products are attributed to the Institute." No mention of CC-BY 3.0. The statement is also not equivalent to CC-BY 3.0 as it is limited to "media organizations" and lacks the permission to publish derivative works. On Commons this file would have to be deleted because of this, so I've already removed {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}}. But I am not familiar with the local rules here, so please review carefully. @Czar, I will not add a fair use rationale, for two reasons. Firstly, the file is free in the United States, as we shall see in more detail in a moment. Back to the main point. The line you quoted is not part of the ratio decidendi of the ruling. It is merely part of the general introductory description. In the actual rationale, the court makes clear that it is based on the principle that as long as the photograph shows the whole bottle, then whatever is on the label, simple or complex, does not make a difference. ("We need not decide whether the label is copyrightable because Ets-Hokin's product shots are based on the bottle as a whole, not on the label.") The court specifies that the case is decided on that principle and that it is not necessary to use the fact that this particular label may happen to be simple.

This court case is the classic case on the basis of which such files are hosted on Commons. If you search, you will find dozens of discussions there. You can have a look, for example, at: 1 2 3 4 5. (By the way, in the last link, it can be noted that the file was normally kept, but that it was later deleted unilaterally out of process by... the nominator of the nomination here, who apparently does not accept the principle, and who is not an admin on Commons anymore.)

That said, this file should probably be kept on Wikipedia, because in this particular image, the pictured objects are not from the United States. As you know, Commons has an additional policy about countries of origin. There's not a complete consensus about what to do on Commons when photographs first published in the U.S. show objects that were first published in another country. Thanks for the links. I still can't reconcile the leap that a label's "graphical illustration" can both be eligible for copyright AND ignored as long as the intent is to photograph the full bottle, but I can defer to the Commons consensus, be it as it may.
