File:OpeningMRT.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Mailer diablo (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Non-free image being used in three article: Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore), Ong Teng Cheong and Toa Payoh MRT Station. It has a non-free use rationale (nfur) for each usage, but the usage in each of the articles seems to mainly decorative and therefore does not comply with WP:NFCC#8. The image is definitely not needed in either the "Mass Rapid Transit" article to support the single sentence "On 7 November 1987, the first section of the North South Line started operations, consisting of five stations over six kilometres." or the "Ong Teng Cheong" article in support of "At that time, Ong pushed for the development of the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRT), the largest construction project in Singapore's history." and should be removed from both. Usage may be acceptable in "Toa Payoh MRT Station" since it is actually of the opening ceremony for that particular station, but only if more sourced commentary about the ceremony is added to justify its usage because the current "This station was among the first phase of MRT stations, from Toa Payoh to Yio Chu Kang, to be opened in Singapore in 1987." does not significantly improve the reader's understanding of what is written to the degree that omitting the image would be detrimental to that understanding. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:54, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - The usage is decorative in all instances. In particular, an image of the opening ceremonies provides nothing in the way of additional understanding for the station specific article -- Whpq (talk) 16:22, 25 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. I noticed the biography itself has not written a lot about the MRT debate, but a couple of sources wrote that Ong was the main driving force that led to the construction of the MRT system in the first place. [1] [2]. It is still talked about today and definitely has its relevance in Ong's article and the history of the MRT generally. [3] Therefore, it is not simply a decorative image or caption. Omitting the image will have the effect of excluding the role of Ong in the decision to construct the Singapore's MRT system. - Mailer Diablo 07:57, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • Not sure why an image is needed to make reference to the role Ong played in buidling the MRT system. His role is quite clear from "At that time, Ong pushed for the development of the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRT), the largest construction project in Singapore's history. During his tenure as the Minister of National Development, Ong was a proponent and advocate of the Mass Rapid Transit system. " There is nothing in that statement that requires a non-free image per NFCC#8 because seeing this particular photo does not improve the reader's understanding to such a degree that not seeing it would be detrimental to that understanding. Moreover, the extra sources you've provided may be fine for further showing the role Ong played, but they do not show why there's a need for a picture showing Ong at the opening ceremony. The Straights Times article says "On the MRT's opening day, Mr Wildermuth's contributions were recognised by Mr Ong who shook his hand - a moment captured by press photographers." and that's the only mention of the opening ceremony in all three sources that I could find. The picture being discussed here is not of Ong and Wildrmuth shaking hands and even if it was that still would not be sufficient a reason for non-free use per NFCC#8 in my opinion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:37, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free image being used in Ong Teng Cheong and Singaporean presidential election, 1993. Image has a non-free use rationale for each article, but only the usage in "Ong Teng Cheong" seems appropriate. Usage in the election article seems decorative despite the claim made in the relevant nfur and should be removed per WP:NFCC#8. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:05, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File:Wmpioneers.png (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by JonBroxton (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Non-free logo being used in Western Mass Pioneers and Western Mass Lady Pioneers. File has a non-free use rationale (nfur) for each, but usage only seems appropriate in "Western Mass Pioneers" per WP:NFCC#8 and No. 17 WP:NFC#UUI. Logo clearly says "Mens Professional Soccer" so I'm not sure at all how or why this is being used for the "Lady Pioneers" article. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:02, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I just think the website needs to be current and a more recent picture would be helpful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Burningblue52 (talkcontribs) 18:09, 24 December 2015‎ (UTC)[reply]

File:Pinocchio Shrek.jpeg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Bat-Rat guy (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Possibly fails WP:NFCC#8 with its use in Pinocchio. The fact that the character appears in the Shrek series seems adequately illustrated by text alone. Steel1943 (talk) 20:59, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Worldwide the shrek series have grossed over 3 billion dollars. The shrek series are one of the most popular contemporary cartoons. So it can be argued that pinochio's representation in that series is the most significant one in modern context. If so an image is important so the reader can see that representation.
