Reviews

  • Hi Splintax, this is my first time reviewing a user, so please bare with me :P So you are considering to apply for adminship! I'll try to simulate what most people might ask you in your RFA.
  • You've been a registered user since January 2005. The experience should be there! But the edit count is relatively low with 1143. Most successful RFA these days require somewhere around 3000. Some users even use that as a single standard to oppose RFAs if the candidate does not meet numbers close to that.
  • But I see that you are a cautious user. So if you can get to somewhere around 2000, I think you are in a good position!
  • Response: Thanks for the feedback. I anticipated that my edit count may be a problem. Seeing as "edit count isn't everything", and I like to be especially cautious, I was hoping most people would be able to see past it, although I understand that 2000 may be a better target to aim for. splintax (talk) 02:49, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • 81 Article talk. 66 User talk, with 18 in your own page, and another 21 on just total of five users. Combine these numbers with the fact that you have not been in a edit conflict with any user, it kind of gives an impression that you merely haven't interact with a lot users at all, or have not challenged yourself on dealing with hot issues (which you will probably face on daily basis as a admin).
  • A total of 6 vandalism warning given out in a span of 2 years is also not good for a RFA candidate. To increase that, you can go patrol Today's featured article page sometimes, and report repetitive vandal to WP:AIV (that's what I do, lol).
  • Response: I didn't realise that this sort of activity was considered necessary for an RfA. Thanks for the tip; I'll certainly be spending some more time at WP:RC then. (Although aren't featured articles protected? Surely there wouldn't be much vandalism on them?) Also, I think the reason I haven't dealt with other users much is because most of my edits have been pretty 'good' in the sense that most people would agree with them (removing spam/promo material, reformatting, adding new, sourced info, etc.) What would be your advice on making edits that are more 'controversial' so that I could get more experience in dealing with other users? splintax (talk) 02:49, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'll respond it in your talk page. AQu01rius (User • Talk) 03:59, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A good way to identify trouble spots is to watch WP:MEDCAB; also WP:RFC, Wikipedia:Wikiquette alerts, and WP:VP. --Ideogram 06:06, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Activity: 273 edits in this year. I see it's been rising this month, but users may still question if you can be active.
  • Response: Once again, this is an issue I'll have to address. The amount of time I spent on Wikipedia fluctuates depending on my workload at school - but I've just graduated :-) splintax (talk) 02:49, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • 1 FA Standard: It's another popular standard for admin candidates. I sugguest you to keep working on the BitTorrent and UTorrent article and try to get it featured. I think those two articles have potential. If you can achieve that, you will pass this standard with no question.
    Response: Thanks. I'll do that. splintax (talk) 02:49, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You can also benefit from participating in WP:FAC. --Ideogram 23:43, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Only 9 Wikipedia talk may rise some user's concern. You can increase that by participating in say, WikiProject Australia discussions =) Best wishes. AQu01rius (User • Talk) 18:19, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
I've created a number of articles from scratch, particularly relating to electronics and computer peripherals. Examples: Walkman Bean, Logitech 'G' series, Logitech G7, Perth Royal Show. I've tried to focus on creating a decent stub right from scratch, including pictures and links - without inflating my edit count by revising the article many times over a short period. I've also spent quite a lot of time fixing double redirects (though that problem seems to have been solved automatically now), and cleaning up articles using the 'Random article' button and WP:Cleanup.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
No, I've never had any problems with editing conflicts in the past.
