Reyk (talk · contribs) I've been around since 2005 and made something like 8,000 edits. I find I divide my time on Wikipedia roughly equally between content creation, wikignomish work, and debating in policy talk pages and AfD. For a while I thought I wanted to be an admin, but now I think I don't. I'm mostly asking for a review because I'd like to know if my activity here benefits the 'pedia as much as I hope and believe it does, and what I could be doing better. Reviews

  • Hey Reyk, from a glance of your edits, you seem like a very GF editor here on WP: you edit areas of WP and expand various articles. I just recommend editing other areas of WP, not just articles, but areas of WP like WP:AIV or even here at WP:ER. In the future, try not to go "bezerk" in deletion debates, keep your cool and assume good faith.--Best, RUCӨ 00:18, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • You might like to spend five seconds researching a topic before !voting to delete an article on it. Using the strawman argument of 'we don't have articles on every match' to argue for the deletion of the clearly notable 2001 Calcutta test between India and Australia was rather strange. Quite what was 'heavily biased' about it escapes me, and that would be an argument for improving the article, not deleting it anyway. Nick mallory (talk) 00:35, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • If you had an issue about my editing in general, this would be the appropriate place to mention it but a disagreement in a single AfD is best dealt with there. Your sarcastic griping here is both inappropriate and mean-spirited. Reyk YO! 06:45, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
Well, I have helped get two articles (Noctilucent cloud and Vulcanoid asteroid) to good article status and a third (243 Ida) is nearly there. I'd have to say those are my best contributions here. Of those three, I'd nominate Vulcanoid asteroid as my favorite because I rewrote it pretty much from scratch.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
I fall on the deletionist side of the fence in most matters, so I frequently get into debates with people from the other side. Generally these are civil debates but I recognize there are a few things that irk me and tempt me to fly off the handle. I haven't gone ballistic yet and I doubt if I will, but I can definitely get snarly and sarcastic. Strangely, name calling and personal attacks don't bother me as much- see this bizarre exchange for the worst incident of that sort I've had to deal with.
