JodyB[edit]

JodyB (talk · contribs) I am interested in feedback on all areas of my work. I have been editing intensely for about a month and many of those edits are quick semi-automated edits to assess articles. I am very active with WikiProject Alabama. You may be direct and plain-spoken as I have very thick skin. JodyB 20:33, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Although you have a large number of edits they appear to be mostly vandalism patrol and article assessment. There is nothing wrong with that (it is sorely needed) but there is not much to evaluate on your wannabe kate report.

If you are trying to get a WikiProject going by far the most important task is recruitment. Getting the word out there with WikiProject Banners is useful. I always make sure to actually assess an article while tagging it. Also keep an eye out for edits to articles related to your WikiProject and quickly engage such editors and make them feel welcome.

Kirill Lokshin (talk · contribs), as the lead coordinator of the insanely successful WP:MILHIST, is the person to ask for WikiProject advice. However, he does not have much time as he is a sitting Arbitrator.

I think it is valuable and rewarding to work in a team, and WikiProjects are an excellent way to do that. You may wish to join other WikiProjects related to your interests. As a small WikiProject Alabama may not give you much opportunity for collaboration at first. I am active in WikiProject China, and even though it is a vast subject, I would say there are less than a dozen active contributors, many of which have specialized interests.

I would also recommend you look over WP:FAC and WP:GAC for articles that can use your skills, whatever they are. That can be a little tricky, since some of the nominators may feel some ownership of their work, but if you extend a little feeler by making some small edits/recommendations and the response is positive you will know you can work with them.

I see you have some work with Categories. I think the Category system is sorely neglected; most people don't know about it and very few people maintain it. I would encourage you to clean up and promote Alabama-related categories, looking to other state-related Category systems for guidance.

I see you are active in RFA. As you probably know, if you want to be an admin you will probably need more and more substantial mainspace edits. Working on GA's and FA's is a great way to do this.

I see that you have mediated a case for WP:MEDCAB. After reviewing your handling of this case I feel you could contribute a great deal to MedCab. One thing we particularly need is experienced mediators who can guide volunteers new to mediating. I am not an objective observer of MedCab so this is a purely selfish recommendation.

I see the warnings about your AWB use, I hope that issue is settled. Other than that, I don't see any problems. I hope my recommendations are useful, and if I can help you further, please feel free to ask on my talk page. --Ideogram 08:37, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
I guess I am most pleased with my work at WikiProject Alabama. The project had been sitting on the proposal list for sometime when two or three of us got it rolling. There's a very long way to go but so far we are making progress.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
No, not that I am aware. My page is vandalized from time to time because of vandalism patrolling but I am not aware of any editing problems. When I first gained access to some of the semi-automated tools I made some errors and one person seemed to be particularly irritated. But that passed quickly and I corrected the problems. Stress has not been a problem for me.
