Ironholds*[edit]

Ironholds (talk · contribs) I've been editing for about a month, but almost 2 years before that with a previous username i've now retired. I started again as a clean break; trying to use the things i've learnt to start again without clocking up the mistakes i did last time. I'm here to see if this has worked and, if not, how i can make it do so. Ironholds (talk) 01:11, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • You seem to be doing a lot of clean up things. Good but seems you are sometimes too quick to jump a gun. Slow down, take your time. For example, reporting User:Lisa Benest MD as inappropriate username because it is "promotional". I fail to see how - that's a person's real name and professional certification. The fact that the userpage is promotional is another matter. You also need to mark minor edits as such (for example, when (re)categorizing articles – BTW, it would be a lot more helpful to categorize them instead of replacing {{uncategorized}} with a category like category:Uncategorized people). You are using edit summaries, so that's good. But try to be more descriptive (your favorite seems to be "message" which does not really tell me what I should expect from the diff). I totally applaud your use of non-templated messages to various users. Very very cool! I though this one was especially sweet. It does add human touch to Wikipedia experience.
  • You should also try writing / expanding some articles. Surely there must be some WikiProject of your interest, try joining and helping. That will help you to appreciate what other people are doing around here.
  • So overall, you are doing the right thing. You seem to understand and follow procedures. Keep it up, but be more careful and pay closer attention details. They do matter. Renata (talk) 07:10, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

  1. 1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?

I mainly work on WikiGnome-esque tasks, but i guess cleaning up the musicans related categories and any articles i find from there is my main pride. A lot of articles were improperly placed, i.e a band being under "musicians" rather than "musical groups". I've also worked a lot in RV'ing new edits, although a couple of users seem to have taken offence to that and vandalised my page (in my opinion, if meatpuppets and vandals are getting frustrated by your actions, you're most likely doing a good job).

  1. 2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?

I havent been in any edit conflicts; i try and go out of my way to thank users who've helped me, but it doesnt work the other way round. As previously mentioned, my userpage has been vandalised, but my reaction was to a) stick a standardised tag on their talk pages for doing so and b) point out that if they do have an issue with my edits, they are welcome to take it up with me on my talkpage without using their current tactics.
