I've been a Wikipedian since April of 2006. In that time, I've racked up 4,788 edits (479 of which have been deleted due to New Page Patrol and Copyvio tagging), created a single article which I'm not ashamed to admit I'm proud of — DECv, been a CHU clerk, an RfCU clerk, I've spent hours at a time in the IRC help channels, and have helped probably hundreds of new users through the {{helpme}} tag.

Of the latter years, I'm active at CAT:ESP looking for semi-protected edit requests, the help channels on IRC, and many hours of vandalism reversion.

I edit with no automated tools but rollback, and continue right through from reversion to warning to reporting to AIV (where required, obviously).

I'm also (sporadically) active on WP:ACC where I assist new and IP-blocked users to create new usernames, and once upon a time was even active in unblock-en-l, despite not being an administator.

I've previously had a few RfA's (1 - where I had a massive 238 edits, and 2 where I had around 2,000 but still didn't quite make the cut), and although not willing to self-nominate again, I am looking for some guidance. Tell me about my edits, tell me how you think I'm going, tell me what I need to do better, tell me if you think I could end up with that mop in my hand. I have a very biased view of myself ;-).

I think that's about it.. any other questions, feel free to leave them for me! Cheers, — Deon555talkI'm BACK! 14:24, 9 July 2009 (UTC) — Deon555talkI'm BACK! 14:24, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

  1. What are your primary contributions to Wikipedia? Are there any about which you are particularly pleased? Why?
I've mentioned a few above. My baby, DECv (although I make no claims to own it; and my anti-vandal work is certainly a piece of pride to me.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
Ah, I remember this question. I really haven't had any conflicts.. I get the odd vandal poking fun at me or calling me gay.. but I wouldn't call it a conflict... I'm especially nice to vandals [1] :-)

Reviews

Comment Firstly, I applaud your openness in asking for feedback, and your kindness to new users. In view of recent RfAs, I would recommend that you get a bit more involved in the content creation side of things before re-submitting. Not everyone agrees, but many of us feel that an administrator needs an 'all-round knowledge', and that this cannot be obtained without doing a bit of editing. At least you've made one article - that's more than some candidates. Whilst I appreciate that not every Wikipedian is a content creator, and we do indeed need all types, there are some aspects of the creative side that don't require 'expert' skills beyond a reasonable grasp of English - for example, peer review; even good article reviewing isn't rocket-science. This is just 'constructive feedback', and of course, IMHO. I'd be happy to help, if I can. Oh - one more thing - if you haven't been involved in any conflicts, I know this may sound odd - but I suggest that you do so :-) I don't mean start any, of course :-) Just look in Wikipedia:Third opinion perhaps, and see if you can help resolve some disputes. Reply Thanks Chzz for the comment. For the first time in my (Wikipedia) life, I've started looking at editing what I know. All the articles relating to Home and Away need a lot of attention, and I've started working on them. Over the coming weeks, I plan to either fix or re-write every article on the Characters, Episodes and Locations. Some of the articles are very poor in their current state, and some have had AfD nominiations (including unsuccessful ones). I reckon it won't look too bad if I can drag a whole lot of articles back from the dead - and it should be fun doing something I enjoy (yes, maybe not the best taste in TV shows!). As for the other comments, I'll have a look around those areas of the Encyclopedia. I did a short stint at the WP:MEDCAB, maybe I should return. Thanks for the review. Reply You're welcome; if I can help in any way, I'll be glad to. You might consider adding one of those articles to the suggestions in WP:SPOTLIGHT - and perhaps joining in with it; a project that I've recently helped re-launch :-)  Chzz  ►  13:18, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
