David Fuchs (talk · contribs) I've been a contributor to Wikipedia for more than a year but only a moderately active one over the past few months (as you can see by my edit history), and I was just wondering if anyone has any comment, concerns, etc. or suggestions for improving my editing or other things I could do. Either way, thanks. David Fuchs (talk • contribs) 00:31, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reviews

  • I'd say you've been doing a good job. I noticed your spike this last month; are you trying to prove something? For now, a) use the talk pages more to interact and help out other wikipedians; b)as you said to me, continue your good work and keep up with the FA and GAs. Other than that, I believe that you're doing a good job here, and that if you keep it up and make sure to take part in XfDs you will become an admin, if that is your goal. If not, you will become a well-respected member of the community. --teh tennisman 03:14, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • If you helped an article get to FA, you should put that on your userpage; that's quite an achievement! I would recommend getting more involved with the WikiProjects you are a member of. They probably have lists of "to-dos" that you can look at for ideas, or people may be making comments there asking for help or input onto problems or ideas they have and your input would be valued. Other than that, I agree quite a bit with the tennisman. --MECUtalk 16:11, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • delldot's review:
  • Hey David, I've seen and appreciated your hard work here at WP:ER. Here are some other points about your activities:
    • From your user talk page it looks like you're helpful to new users. This is great. It also looks like you're active with Adopt-a-user, also great. I also noticed from a talk page archive that you did not respond to a mean (joking?) post that was obviously intended to get a rise out of you, which I thought was exactly the right response.
    • Very good project space participation. Aside from here, you're part of a wikiproject and participate in AfD. You're also helping at WP:GAC, which apparently is highly needed. I thought this was good, solid advice on the Wikipedia:New contributors' help page.
    • Most of the talk edits I looked at were constructive (e.g. [1]). On some, though, I'd suggest toning down the language in some of your posts so as not to come across as hostile (e.g. here, "horrible header", "section that was pointless"). You want to be careful not to offend. In that same vein, I'd be careful to be welcoming to newcomers, which I thought this was a little lacking in. Looking more closely at your talk and user talk edits, I think there may be some civility issues in your interactions with other users. Similarly, it's best not to provoke vandals by insulting or engaging in hostility with them, which I think you do here. It only makes them act worse (as evidenced in this case by their irate response to your comment). Others' bad behavior is not an excuse for us to act badly in response.
    • You rvv and np patrol, so this is good. Remember to always leave warnings, which it appears that you usually do but sometimes forget.
    • The difs I looked at in your mainspace contributions were also good, you're obviously a hard worker. I noticed some pages to which you added significant content, which is really good (e.g. [2]. You're a good writer. One minor grammar point: When you're writing the possessive form of multiple people, the apostrophe goes after the s. So "the nobles'"; not "the noble's" (that would refer to one noble). Correct me if I've misunderstood the context here.
    • Edit summary usage looked perfect.
    • I think your encyclopedia writing edits have been first-rate. Keep up the good work on that front. While you're perfectly civil a lot of the time, I do hope you'll look at the civility issues I brought up. Thanks for all your hard work on the project. delldot | talk 03:39, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
I suppose my editing over at the Halo articles is where I've spent most of my time, and I helped get Halo up to featured status and I am trying to do the same with Halo 2. Besides that, I guess welcoming new members is somewhat gratifying.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
There's still an ongoing question over Editingoprah, a user I confronted over violation of the 3rr which turned into a massive (ongoing) sock-puppet hunt. Other than that, basically every other Wikipedian I've interacted with has been fairly courteous and a real help.
