User:Alphachimp[edit]

Alphachimp (talk · contribs) I've been on Wikipedia since mid-2005. Some other editors recently expressed interest in putting me up WP:RFA. Before I accept any nominations, though, I'd like a little bit of feedback about how I can improve as a WP editor, and what I should do before going for RfA. Any feedback (other than flaming) would be very much appreciated. Thanks =). Alphachimp talk 18:56, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please contribute more to the mainspace aside from vandalism reverts. You write well and can contribute a great deal. Many of us believe that experience in mainspace is very important in the ability to decide on appropriateness of content; this comes up quite frequently in administrative work -- Samir धर्म 11:13, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't really require encyclopedia edits to support an RfA because I don't make heaps of them - I tend to read it instead. You seem to be doing a great job and I am seeing your bot everywhere. Keep up the good work. ViridaeTalk 14:13, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I thought you were an admin at one point. You've been helpful, and that's certainly a good thing to be. Keep on helping out. I would say get as close to admin stuff as you can, e.g. close (near-)unanimous keeps at AfD (you might have to hunt for them), and participate in decision making processes at AfD, AN, AN/I. You have to get the brain turning round in an admin-type way, taking responsiblity and asserting yourself to establish your own judgement and sense of values in action. Hey, stand. Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
Answer I have been extremely pleased with my bot, and fighting vandalism using Vandalproof. The bot categorizes articles tagged for cleanup into their individual cleanup-by month subcategories. I'm also pleased with my work on Childhood obesity, which I basically completely rewrote. I'm working in Wikiproject New York City Subway, and am trying to match individual bus and subway station connections. I'm sure I've made some other contributions, but they don't really come to mind right now.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
Answer I haven't really had any major conflicts recently. There's always the random vandalism to my userpage when I'm reverting vandalism, but I find it's helpful to just try to stay civil. Typed comments can appear very differently than they were originally intended. When all else fails, I just go and play Battlefield 2. It's pretty good for relieving my stress.
