Copyright investigations (manual article tagging)[edit]

- Three sentences are from the article are based on information taken from the interview and the reference above is linked to in the main article. Three sentences does not constitute a copyright violation and they are not copied verbatim either. Somebody should be checked but it ain't me.GordyB (talk) 18:40, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
- Obviously, this is a very different sort of problem than what many people think of when they think of copyright violation - the traditional straightforward copy-paste. Unfortunately verbatim copying isn't the extent of copyright issues, User:GordyB, as an administrator explained to you in April 2011 when earlier copyright issues were picked up by a bot. The issues I'm seeing here seem to be the same sort that you encountered the last time. Unfortunately, copyright issues can be encountered this way in full good faith. Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing includes some advice you might find useful in avoiding these issues in the future. I'll see if I can fix this particular article. Please do be careful when adding content not to copy or closely paraphrase content from copyrighted sources. Limited copying is permitted, but only where it is clearly marked as quotation. Wikipedia:Copy-paste discusses these issues as well. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:03, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

- This is clearly an issue that needs some work. Never mind the flagged source, when working on the rewrite I checked the source cited for this sentence: "Woods was appointed as director of rugby at York City Knights in April 2010 before taking over as coach from James Ratcliffe two months later." The source says, "Woods was appointed as director of rugby in April 2010 before taking over as coach from James Ratcliffe two months later." The only difference between the source and the article is that you have added "at York City Knights". Wikipedia's policies do not permit reusing content from sources in this way. All information taken from copyrighted sources must be put into your own words unless you are using clearly marked quotations for the kinds of reasons described at WP:NFC. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:07, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

- Why not speedy-delete when the copying is unambiguous? We need to check to see if this is in the public domain by virtue of being created by a government entity and/or copied from an existing source that is in the public domain. If this is found to be infringing, I recommend gutting the copyvio and revision-deleting everything from the first infringing version until the last infringing version. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 17:49, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
- Article cleaned by investigator or others. No remaining infringement. Revdelete request added for admin attention. The Amuwo Odofin site carries a clear copyright notice, so I've gone ahead and implemented Davidwr's "gut" recommendation. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 23:39, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
