Reference is to non-public part of Britannica. Can someone with access verify? --Alvestrand 06:53, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Removing from list based on evaluation of other copyvio tags from same editor. Intro of Brit. is not in conflict.
That's a public domain source from the United States government, and is quite clearly attributed in the text. Fail to see how that particular case is relevant. MrZaiustalk 19:19, 21 October 2007 (UTC) PD source.[reply]
  • Sonata for Microtonal Piano (history · last edit) - context shows that virtually entire article is a long quotation from the composer - no source given but could be sleevenote of recording referred to.Smerus 21:17, 21 October 2007 (UTC) Found source and made appropriate adjustments.[reply]

  • Image:Skylon.svg (history · last edit) from [17]. WolfKeeper 16:46, 21 October 2007 (UTC) Seems OK to me. Besides, it's on commons now.[reply]
    • I created the image myself. I believe it is a WP:OWN violation on the part of Wolfkeeper. See his user talk page. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 17:15, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • I have looked at both images and noticed that while GW did make the image "by hand" so-to-speak, he used the one provided by Wolfkeeper as an example to copy from. It was difficult to tell if it was an exact computer-copy, but I noticed some differences that show it was more like a trace-copy in a sense. I don't know much about copyright laws so I can't say more. - Cyborg Ninja 17:24, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • The image in question was studied when I made the SVG. Because it was the largest image with a scale guide on it that I had available at the time, it was the one which I used to take size reference points for my image (ie where things are), which means that the SVG's nominal size is almost identical to the size of the GIF. I then used this image, and others, to observe details, which I then added into mine. There are some things present in my image that are absent in the image in question, for example the divide in the payload bay doors. Equally, features of the image in question are absent in the SVG, for example the centrelines. Unfortunately, if two people draw the same thing, then their drawings should look similar, or otherwise one of them is clearly incorrect. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 17:55, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
        • Unfortunately, under copyright law, if the work is substantially the same, then copyright is still owned by the original owners. It has to be like that, otherwise you could just do a hand-copy and evade the copyright every time. It's still a copy, even if it's not a mechanical copy. In fact, even comparatively small amounts of a copyright works contaminate a work- copyright is 'contagious', and it all becomes a derived work. In this case it was self-evident to me which image it came from, and if this ever came to court the wikipedia wouldn't have a leg to stand on (barring a good lawyer), particularly since you have admitted working from it.WolfKeeper 18:27, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • If there is any way in which I can redraw or modify the image to alleviate the dispute, please let me know. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 18:05, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
        • Unless you can claim fair use or arrange a license for the original image, I think the image is contaminated and dead. :-( WolfKeeper 18:27, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
        • Claim fair use of my own image? I was thinking I could change details, increase/decrease the level of detail, enlarge the scale, or something to make the images less similar, even though they aren't the same anyway. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 18:39, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've redrawn and reuploaded the image, I can see no further cause for concern. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 23:43, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
