Images

Per the discussion here, images from the wizards.com image book art galleries (excepting images of book covers, per discussion elsewhere ... which these are not) are not promotional images, are not available for noncommercial use, and fail 3/4 of the fair use tests.

I am less certain about images from the wizards.com website depicting figures from the D&D Miniatures game. A stronger case about transformational use and noncompetition can be made regarding these images, but I would prefer to leave the determination up to those with more fair use/copyright law experience than have I.

No images (unless I overlooked one) tagged with this template have a detailed justification of fair use.

Additionally, the template itself will need to either be deleted or heavily modified, as its current wording appears unacceptably broad. Furthermore, none of the images tagged with this template are being used in the manner the template currently describes (that is, to illustrate a discussion of the game), but instead to illustrate a discussion of "the illustrated character, object, or scene," which was the original, yet broader, wording of the template. The article content and image mentioned here were released under GFDL by Mitchel Forman, and all the appropriate documentation was supplied to Wikipedia as required and was approved by an admin at that time. The discussion page for the image and its linking article detals same. Tvccs 15:23, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Synar, who is deceased, no longer has a Congressional Web page, or one archived. The image in question was previously used by his office as an official photo - I knew Mr. Synar and his staff personally prior to his death. There is no free image of Mr. Synar available through any source I could locate, and I did considerable research at the time of posting this one. Tvccs 15:23, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If so, then the image is mistagged. It needs a correct tag, an explicit source, and a fair use rationale. – Quadell (talk) (random) 15:32, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
