Category:Candidates for uncontroversial speedy deletion[edit]

The result of the discussion was: rename per WP:BARTENDER. (non-admin closure) CLYDE TALK TO ME/STUFF DONE 22:48, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: All speedy deletion is supposed to be "uncontroversial", so the category name as it currently stands is both redundant and undescriptive. "Technical deletion" is what G6 is called over at WP:G6, but I would be open to other names if someone has a better idea. HouseBlastertalk 21:52, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like angels dancing on the head of a pin to me but I'm not actively involved with either CSD or categorisation so I'll leave it to others. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:12, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Rename to Category:Candidates for speedy deletion under G6. * Pppery * it has begun... 23:34, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The issue isn't with the current category name, but with how poorly G6 is defined. The only one of the examples given at WP:G6 that I'd consider a "technical speedy deletion" is the one G6 was originally created for, and the one least frequently invoked these days: repairing copy-paste moves. —Cryptic 00:25, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment It's bizarre to see a CSD category tagged for deletion. Very meta. If you are going to rename this category, it should really involve a discussion at WT:CSD. Liz Read! Talk! 03:26, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support alt Category:Candidates for speedy deletion under G6 for easy recognizability and as most accurate. While we are at it, all siblings may be renamed likewise. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:56, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename as proposed, not to "candidates for speedy deletion under G6" as we already have enough problems with the G6 criterion being improperly used as a catch-all. "Technical" is the correct term for these sorts of deletions, and as the nominator said, all speedy deletion is uncontroversial by definition (any controversial deletion must be discussed and is therefore not eligible for speedy deletion). Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 21:14, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename as proposed - I am in agreement with Ivanvector. -- Whpq (talk) 13:41, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: option B. (non-admin closure) CLYDE TALK TO ME/STUFF DONE 22:51, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Option A
Category:Emigrants from occupied Germany (1945-1949) to Category:Emigrants from occupied Germany (1945–1949)
Category:Emigrants from occupied Germany (1945-1949) to the United States to Category:Emigrants from occupied Germany (1945–1949) to the United States
  • Option B
Category:Emigrants from occupied Germany (1945-1949) to Category:Emigrants from Allied-occupied Germany

@Santiago Claudio: Re-target Category:Emigrants from Allied-occupied Germany and Category:Emigrants from Allied-occupied Germany to the United States, per C2D Allied-occupied Germany? Hyphenation Expert (talk) 07:20, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Hyphenation Expert: No, please! Santiago Claudio (talk) 10:46, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose as proposed, given C2D conflict. Hyphenation Expert (talk) 14:42, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • This oppose does not make sense. There is no C2D conflict, rather there are two different C2D proposals (dash, and Allied-occupied Germany) of which one (Allied-occupied Germany) is opposed for unclear reasons. Both proposals can go ahead if no rationale is offered for opposing Allied-occupied Germany, and otherwise the dash rename can still go ahead because there is clearly no reason why that could be opposed. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:37, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
      My point is skipping the dash fix, since "(1945-1949)" should be removed. This time period is already part of the definition of Allied-occupied Germany. Hyphenation Expert (talk) 00:11, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This is a procedural nomination, there were two different proposals for speedy renaming. @Santiago Claudio and Hyphenation Expert: pinging both proposers. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:05, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Support Option B. I think that the use of dates isn't helpful and leads to awkward child categories that are often misnamed. (e.g. Category:Finnish emigrants to the United States (1809–1917) ) Mason (talk) 19:13, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Basutoland did not exist as a British colony until 1884. This region was a part of the Cape Colony prior to that. –Aidan721 (talk) 15:36, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, even if the Basuto Gun War was not exactly in the Cape Colony, it was at least with the involvement of the Cape Colony. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:00, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Dutch expatriates in the Dutch East Indies[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename. No prejudice against a split discussion. (non-admin closure) CLYDE TALK TO ME/STUFF DONE 22:56, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The category was renamed a few days ago but it has at least two problems: 1) as the Indies was directly ruled by the Netherlands since the end of the Napoleonic wars, it makes no sense to speak of expatriates, and 2) many or most of the people categorized over the years as "Dutch people of the Dutch East Indies" were born in the Indies. Dan Carkner (talk) 14:39, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alternative. A more helpful alternative would be to split the category to make the distinction you pointed out. "Dutch people from the Dutch East Indies" and Category:Dutch expatriates in the Dutch East Indies. Mason (talk) 21:06, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Strong Support - per Dan Carkners comments, there is no room for the expat category, and specially seeing the history of the category - it should have been left at Dutch people. I see no help in allowing the usage of the term expat - in the history of the Dutch East Indies, I would be very surprised if anyone ever actually used the term - as a self identifier, or as a reference to people of a particular group. JarrahTree 00:16, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree that a compromise is necessary which uses the term expatriate; it doesn't make sense in this context. Dan Carkner (talk) 14:20, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
