The result of the discussion was: merge. (non-admin closure)LaundryPizza03 (d) 04:32, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT. Each has 2 articles. –Aidan721 (talk) 23:58, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Very poor rationale since the number of tornadoes in those two provinces will increase with time. This looks the biased view of an American about Canada. Pierre cb (talk) 05:42, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge for now without objection to recreation of these categories when they can be populated with at least five articles. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:55, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: norm is people from NATION Mason (talk) 21:09, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, we use "from" as a default for former countries. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:57, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Mason why have you put various Dutch sub-categories into Danish parents? That looks like a mistake, unless I missed a slice of history. – Fayenatic London 13:30, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My intent was to bundle several "of" categories together. I started with the Dutch ones, and then I saw that Danish category and figured I'd just lump it with the rest as the reasoning was the same. Mason (talk) 23:04, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure)LaundryPizza03 (d) 04:31, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:EGRS/I: Do not create categories that intersect a particular topic (such as occupation, place of residence, or other such characteristics), with an ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or disability, unless these characteristics are relevant to that topic. This intersection of religion and occupation is not defining. Edward-Woodrowtalk 17:21, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per WP:OCEGRS - Listify, if wanted. - jc37 18:31, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, per WP:OCEGRS. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:57, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Delete per nom. Mason (talk) 20:37, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reconsider unless similar categories and associated pages such as for chess players (an analogous "mind sport") and athletes also are being deleted on same rationale. Otherwise, what's really needed is a page titled List of Jewish bridge players — as exists for chess players. Casey (talk) 01:41, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is a category, not a page. Creating List of Jewish contract bridge players is presumably an option. - jc37
    • Agree that other Jewish sportspeople categories should be nominated too. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:01, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • Seems as if all similar pages themselves should be purged along with other "sensitive" categories? And how about the ubiquitous mention of religious heritage in many bios? (e.g., "Goren was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Russian Jewish immigrants.") Sometimes such could be considered essential in defining the subject's persona, as for, say, a well-known rabbi or perhaps an ambassador to Israel — but this doesn't seem to be the case for the famous bridge player Charles Goren; it's not like "He spent his youth playing bridge at the Jewish Community Center." My apologies for burdening THIS particular discussion with concepts undoubtedly covered elsewhere in Wikipedia's administrative sections! Casey (talk) 14:09, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge. Note that the Andhra Pradesh one will be merged to Category:Businesspeople from Andhra Pradesh. (non-admin closure)LaundryPizza03 (d) 04:30, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:OCEGRS: Do not create categories that intersect a particular topic (such as occupation, place of residence, or other such characteristics), with an ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or disability, unless these characteristics are relevant to that topic. Gender is not defining for businesspeople, and, given the size of this category, it would be best to upmerge to the parent category. Unnecessary overcategorization. Nominator's rationale: All entries have been redirected as non-notable. Upmerge all entries to Category:30 Days of Night (franchise), Category:Novels based on comics, and Category:American vampire novels. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 17:01, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure)LaundryPizza03 (d) 04:26, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This category seems to exist for editors who use one particular userbox which right now is one editor. The category is uncategorized so I'm not sure where it fits into User template categories and whether or not this is a proper use. I don't know whether there is the likelihood of expansion. Liz Read! Nominator's rationale: merge, the only article is about a rapid convert to Protestantism, and is already in Category:16th-century Lutheran bishops in Prussia. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:23, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Support. also it's probably is a pretty narrow category Mason (talk) 20:36, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Packet (sea transport)[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Packet boat. The RM at Talk:Packet_boat#Requested_move_(#2)_24_September_2023 agreed to keep the article at the current title. (non-admin closure)LaundryPizza03 (d) 04:20, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: These vessels were known as "packets". When used in inland and coastal waterways they were known as packet boats. When used on trans-Atlantic routes they were known as packet ships. Several of the vessels listed in this category are disambiguated as "packet." Gjs238 (talk) 14:32, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose this way, the target is not different enough from packet boat. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:32, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - (UK) Packet ships and (US) packet boats are very different. Should be split into two separate categories Lyndaship (talk) 17:46, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The ship and boat segments that you refer to could be subcategorized under the proposed category. Gjs238 (talk) 18:55, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest you please peruse the discussion taking place for the article over at Talk:Packet boat. Today's most recent comment invokes WP:COMMONNAME to use the term "packet boat" for both packet boats and packet ships. Gjs238 (talk) 13:43, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Revise proposal: Rename category to Packet boats and ships C2D (as per recently renamed article). Gjs238 (talk) 22:26, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • C2D does not apply, as the article was unilaterally moved. There is currently an RM going on. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:03, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Some time ago, the articles Packet ship & Packet (sea transport) (two article names referring to the same thing) were merged into Packet boat. But the category Category:Packet (sea transport) was never revised after the article merge. Propose to rename the category to match the eponymous article name.
