:* Propose deleting Category:Deaf culture in Lithuania (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT. This category has only 1 entry. Sole article to be upmerged to parent category/categories (id est: Category:Disability in Lithuania. Estopedist1 (talk) 08:55, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I updated the nomination --Estopedist1 (talk) 08:23, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Estopedist1: Simply Delete as they only include "Country at the Deaflympics" pages - which already includes more specific sports-related categories. No need to add more vague cats. Pelmeen10 (talk) 14:06, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

  • Pelmeen10 is right, the articles are already in (other) subcategories of the targets. For example Deaflympics is part of Deaf sports is part of Deaf culture. I had overseen this too. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:07, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

more categories nominated
Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:SMALLCAT, most year categories contain only one article. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:50, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, for example 1794 in the Austrian Netherlands has 8 pages plus 2 subcats with together another 8 pages. Fram (talk) 18:46, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • It is not useful to have a tree full of smallcats with one exception. If needed, just 1794 only, but I think we'd better be consistent. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:10, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • ALT can we compromise on a "by decade" structure instead? Laurel Lodged (talk) 15:06, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'd be ok with that as a compromise. It should be clear however that apart from the Brabant Revolution (with its own subcategory) and the French Revolutionary Wars, both very late in the century, there is very little content in this entire tree. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:36, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge as nom -- A merger by decade would be feasible, but the result would still be a lot of SMALLCATs. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:19, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge — while there are a few now populated, not enough to support an entire tree. Opposed to by decade as well. The years targeted suffice to keep them well ordered.

Nominator's rationale: The template handling adding pages to this category was deleted in 2017 with the reason that images here should be uploaded to commons. There is one image here but I'm not familiar with image copyrights so not sure which category it belongs to. Gonnym (talk) 14:18, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per my earlier nomination of to remane Category:Sport climbing competitions to Category:Climbing competitions, this is also a broader category than just sport climbers and includes competitive bouldering and speed climbers (some do all three). Therefore, better to use a broader title of just "Competition climbers". Aszx5000 (talk) 12:32, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, the proposed name does not match with all subcategories in the tree. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:02, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have to also rename some of these sub-categories (particularly the Asian games ones), but wanted to fix the head category first. Per competition climbing, the term "sport climber" is a sub-set of a "competition climber", but many climbers compete in several disciplines so it is arbitrary to split them out. Even more confusingly, the term "sport climber" gets confused with the non-competitive term of sport climbing (not helped by some competitions calling themselves "sport climbing compititions". The best way to solve is to clarify that they are "competition climbers" and work down from there, Aszx5000 (talk) 18:42, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Opposecompetition climbing was recently renamed by Aszx5000, opposed on Talk. It was previously better named as climbing competition. (I've reverted the move.) As the article admits, Competition climbing is sometimes also called "sport climbing". Keep all the disciplines together, there will never be enough to beat WP:SMALLCAT otherwise. Note that this was called: men's combined sport climbing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. (emphasis added) The name of the governing body is International Federation of Sport Climbing, renamed in 2007 from "International Council for Competition Climbing". This would be going backward. For categories, always start with the general topic and work down. There are non-competitive sport climbers. If and only if someday there are 20 notable self-described "Competition climbers" who have won the Olympics, then revisit.

Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT; with only 1 file in each of these, they are not useful for navigation of the encyclopedia. Targets were chosen according to the current contents in each case. – Fayenatic London 09:41, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 18:02, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per competition climbing, the major modern climbing competitions (namely the IFSC and Olympics) now include several types of climbing (not just sport climbing), mainly :lead climbing (also called sport climbing), bouldering and speed climbing. Thus, this category which contains these modern competitions should be renamed to just "Climbing competitions". Aszx5000 (talk) 08:35, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support WP:C2D — I've reverted the undiscussed recent main article move, so that this again matches the heirarchy and the commons category. The root of the tree is always more general than the specific branches.
