Cluster of WikiProject categories of dubious utility. Within the past week or so, one user arbitrarily started splitting Wikipedia:WikiProject Antigua and Barbuda up into numerous task forces for individual civil parishes without any obvious attempt at establishing a consensus that it was needed in the first place for such a small country, but their efforts also resulted in the generation of a couple of dozen underpopulated one-or-two-article class-assessment and quality-rating categories for each individual task force, and while they created a few of the resulting categories (i.e. the ones I'm listing here), they left many more of them sitting redlinked for Special:WantedCategories to have to clean up.
But our task force rules explicitly state that task forces are supposed to just use the Wikiproject's existing class-assessment and quality-rating infrastructures and categories rather than creating their own separate ones, meaning that none of the categories could be justifiably created for just one or two articles. So the WikiProject's banner template has accordingly been reset to class-rate and quality-rate articles into Antigua and Barbuda class and quality categories instead of separate parish-specific class and quality categories, which left these empty with no pressing need to retain them since they should never have existed in the first place. The result of the discussion was: merge. (non-admin closure)LaundryPizza03 (d) 00:34, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Only one article in each of these categories so far, which does not justify having a category in Floods by country. Merge without prejudice to re-creation if and when there are multiple articles. The member articles are already within the other parent hierarchies e.g. (for the first one) via Floods in North America by decadeFayenatic London 12:00, 4 April 2023 (UTC).[reply]

Nominator's rationale: WP:OVERLAPCAT parallel to Category:Sportspeople by ethnic or national descent. WP:COP-HERITAGE allows only descent or diaspora.
Summary: This recently created parallel category tree was also populated by the same continent and region decent subcategories. Continuing removals after categories were emptied by previous discussions.

Nominator's rationale: WP:OVERLAPCAT parallel to Category:Sportspeople by ethnic or national descent. WP:COP-HERITAGE allows only descent or diaspora.
In most cases, only a Jewish subcategory remains. They are correctly categorized By nationality and occupation and Category:Jewish sportspeople by nationality, so removal of parallel national origin will have no effect.
Summary: This recently created parallel category tree was also populated by the same continent and region decent subcategories. Continuing removals after categories were emptied by previous discussions.

Nominator's rationale: Pointless middle category between Category:Wives by occupation of partner and Category:Association footballers' wives and girlfriends. Might be useful to move talk page to the latter or do some sorts of histmerge. Pelmeen10 (talk) 09:04, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: WP:NOTDEFINING, also following other sportspeople wag's deletion nominations. Pelmeen10 (talk) 08:40, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete 2 of the 3 articles are not defined by the association. (The third article, Máirín Lynch, honestly is defined by the association but that may be an editing issue.) - RevelationDirect (talk) 10:17, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Her husband Jack Lynch is known for being politician though. Pelmeen10 (talk) 16:06, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. The three articles and one redirect are better known for other things than their WaG status, and are so defined in the article introduction: Michaela Harte as the assassinated daughter of [...] Gaelic football manager Mickey Harte, Máirín Lynch as the wife of Jack Lynch, who served as Taoiseach, and Niamh McEvoy and SarahRowe by their own sporting career. The result of the discussion was: keep. WP:SMALLCAT issues have been resolved; creation of a list can be handled independently. (non-admin closure)LaundryPizza03 (d) 20:44, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: or Spatial analysis#Problems; WP:SMALLCAT. fgnievinski (talk) 02:35, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • I created the category originally to organize these topics, and I have a few articles for problems in spatial analysis in the works. I support the creation of such a list page if someone wants to put in the effort to make it. Obviously, this would take a bit of work. One question/suggestion I have is whether creating a list article in addition to the category might be better than converting the category to an article.
I won't argue with anyone who wants to take this on and will offer help if necessary. GeogSage (⚔Chat?⚔) 03:09, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment, whether a category or a list, "problems" seem very broad. It may be recommendable to narrow that down. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:44, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose — (1C 6P) is not small anymore. All articles and categories have "problem", "paradox", or "fallacy" in the title. Nicely done, GeogSage. Spatial analysis#Problems list would be a good idea, too.

Nominator's rationale: as per definition given in the category; there is nothing in geographic region restricting its scope. Note also we already have Category:Regions for the general case. fgnievinski (talk) 00:36, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
