[edit]Category:Members of the Chamber of Deputies (Mexico)
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: split using the wording Category:Members of the Chamber of Deputies (Mexico) for FOO. There is no specific admin action needed here. bibliomaniac15 03:28, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
- Propose splitting Category:Members of the Chamber of Deputies (Mexico) into 32 categories (list below)
- Nominator's rationale: Split into 32 categories for by-state sorting, along the lines of other similar categories for other countries (especially Brazil). This is the largest such cat at this time with 2,650 members. The cat to be split would remain as a parent.
- Oppose, this would result in a trivial intersection. Splitting by political party would make much more sense. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:59, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support. This is entirely consistent with the way national politicians are subcategorized in other countries — the United States does subcategorize congresspeople by which particular state they represented, Canada does subcategorize MPs by which particular province they represented, the UK does subcategorize MPs for which of the four constituent countries of the UK they represented, and on and so forth. Categorizing them this way vs. categorizing them by political party isn't an either/or thing, but can absolutely be a both/and thing, because the US, the UK and Canada all have both a by-state-province-or-country scheme and a by-party scheme.
However, Sammi Brie, you do realize that you don't need CFD's authorization to do that, right? CFD needs to discuss the potential deletion of existing categories, not the potential creation of new categories — you don't need us to authorize the creation of these subcategories, you're allowed to just dive right in and do it. Bearcat (talk) 14:00, 22 February 2022 (UTC)- I at least wanted to bring it up for discussion considering its size. I do see that we're also starting to get a by-legislature split, which is also a good idea and should be expanded. Given that reelection to consecutive terms is very recent to Mexico, this is also acceptable. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 16:53, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
- The situation in Mexico is different from UK and US in the sense that many members of the Chamber of Deputies are not a representing a state. Marcocapelle (talk) 09:34, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
- Propose instead Category:Members of the Chamber of Deputies (Mexico) for Aguascalientes etc. I assume they are belong elected to represent a province, but in other countries you can represent a constituency without being "from" it. Also split into the separate legislature categories. In UK this is done by the years when the Parliament sat. Certainly this is much too large a category to be useful as a navigation aid and needs splitting. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:48, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
- As a note, it is possible over time for one legislator to represent multiple states in their legislative career, such as Jesús Sesma Suárez, but I support this wording. Proportional representation legislators are all assigned to a state in the Legislative Information System. (As a note, this should also be done for Category:Members of the Senate of the Republic (Mexico), except that the by-legislature splits will be two at a time for the Senate, i.e. LXIV/LXV, LXII/LXIII, LX/LXI). - Propose renaming Category:TRAPPIST-1 system to Category:TRAPPIST-1
- Nominator's rationale: Other categories for star systems within Category:Wikipedia categories named after stars are named after the star. ~~~~

- The result of the discussion was: double merge, also to Category:Exoplanets in the Gliese Catalog. That outcome appears to be consistent with others in Category:Wikipedia categories named after stars. – Fayenatic London 17:32, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Planets of the Gliese 581 system to Category:Gliese 581
- Nominator's rationale: No such additional level of categorisation in other Category:Wikipedia categories named after stars. ~~~~

- Support Unnecessary category layer; the parent contains only the host star. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 09:47, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- If not kept it should become a dual merge, also to Category:Exoplanets in the Gliese Catalog. Honestly it makes more sense to upmerge the parent (with only one article) instead of this category. Marcocapelle (talk) 09:39, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: rename all with redirects. bibliomaniac15 03:30, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Match main article Chüy Region. Markussep Talk 19:49, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support having correct diacriticals, but leave cat-redirects as extra items may be added without them. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:50, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: reverse merge. – Fayenatic London 22:20, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Draft articles on media to Category:Drafts about media and drama
- These categories serve the exact same function. ★Trekker (talk) 15:57, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
- Keep The way they are populated is different. Category:Draft articles on media is automatically populated by AFC-submit-wizard based on ORES topic classification. ORES calls this topic category just "Media", with subtypes for more specific classification. The proposed target is populated manually and arbitrarily. – SD0001 (talk) 16:57, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
- And can't the automatic system be modified? Nom is correct here that these are the same. Gonnym (talk) 09:59, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- They are not same – it's just that the contents have the same scope. That would be a reason for merging article categories. But these are maintenance categories, for which there's more to be evaluated before we can say they are "same". The "on media" category is part of Category:Draft articles by ORES topic classification which is a very systematic classification scheme. "about media and drama" makes no sense. Drama is just a form of media which is no more important than others. The illogical title is an indication of an unscientific classification scheme. – SD0001 (talk) 10:57, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- And can't the automatic system be modified? Nom is correct here that these are the same. Gonnym (talk) 09:59, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- Merge or reverse merge, the two categories have the same scope. Insofar it is a problem that one of the two categories is populated "arbitrarily" then purging is the solution. Marcocapelle (talk) 09:44, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
- Reverse merge Category:Draft articles on media is more comprehensive than Category:Drafts about media and drama so I think it should be retained. Liz Read! Talk! 17:30, 3 March 2022 (UTC)

[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: delete. – Fayenatic London 22:07, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: These categories mainly contain articles about 26 letters written in Egypt and 8 in Babylon from a total of 59 in Category:Amarna letters. 1 Egyptian stele and 2 other Babylonian texts were added to the epigraph categories later. The term epigraph, which according to Epigraphy, means any sort of text, suggests that the categories should contain all the articles about texts from Egypt and Babylon. I believe that the categories are unnecessary and could be deleted as the articles are already in Category:Amarna letters, Category:Ancient Egyptian stelas or Category:Akkadian inscriptions. The creator of the categories was banned for sockpuppetry in 2015. TSventon (talk) 09:03, 21 February 2022 (UTC) Copy edited. TSventon (talk) 23:27, 21 February 2022 (UTC)

- Propose renaming Category:Cable television in Canada to Category:Multichannel television in Canada
- Nominator's rationale: match parent article, television in Canada is not exclusively cable ViperSnake151 Talk 02:44, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support in principle, but not in isolation. It's true that in 2022, there are a hell of a lot more alternatives to traditional cable than there were a decade ago. However, this isn't a uniquely Canadian issue: things like IPTV providers, Slingbox, MMDS, satellite delivery and the like are not unique to Canada, and instead similar options exist in many other countries as well — which means this can't just be considered in isolation, but needs to be considered alongside the entire Category:Cable television tree. This can't move to "multichannel" while Category:Cable television in Hong Kong, Category:Cable television in India or Category:Cable television in the United States are left at "cable" — they all have to move if any does, because the tree has to be consistent. The idea of multichannel television being more than just cable now is not a uniquely Canadian concept, so the Canadian category cannot be the only one pulled out of alignment with its siblings when they're actually all subject to the same issue. Bearcat (talk) 02:56, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
