The result of the discussion was: do not rename. Good Ol’factory (talk) 22:47, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: For consistency with the parent Category:History of Puducherry and the rest of the hierarchy under Category:Puducherry. The nominated categories were created in good faith by user:Johnpacklambert as Puducherry is a disambiguation page, but the rest of the hierarchy simply uses "Puducherry" for Puducherry (union territory) as the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. – Fayenatic London 21:37, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete, doing with the contents as proposed. Good Ol’factory (talk) 06:44, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: move subcategory to Category:Greek actors and delete, too little content in this category. If kept, rename to Category:Actors from Achaea aligning with the parent category. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:34, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Articles of Confederation[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 06:43, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Newly created to act as a parent for Category:Signers of the Articles of Confederation‎ but nothing else, deletion on grounds akin to WP:OCEPON. Le Deluge (talk) 15:53, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:42, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would think that Confederation Period would belong in this category, and possibly a few others. Alternately, there should be a category covering this period which includes both the period and the Articles. BD2412 T 22:13, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete to remove an unnecessary layer. The one article is also the main article of the subcategory. Peterkingiron (talk) 11:46, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. --Just N. (talk) 17:03, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: convert to list (looks like it has already been done for the contents of the category). Good Ol’factory (talk) 06:42, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Convert Category:Broderip scholars to article List of Broderip scholars
Nominator's rationale: Notability of scholarship is not established, but probable WP:OCAWARD with list under construction Le Deluge (talk) 15:35, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, we do not usually categorize by scholarship, and this one does not look significant enough to make an exception for. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:52, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support does not seem to be defining. - RevelationDirect (talk) 02:19, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support -- clearly an award, and quite possibky a NN one. Peterkingiron (talk) 11:51, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Roman Catholic priests in France[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 22:50, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This is a rather underpopulated category. They are all in Category:French Roman Catholic priests. I dont think running nationality and location categories side by side works. I think we are about to decide that bishops should be categorised by location - because they generally are fixed in a diocese. Priests are much more mobile, and I think its appropriate to categorise them by nationality. There are already plenty of categories for missionaries. Rathfelder (talk) 13:54, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment The nomination is a little premature. If the bishops nomination goes the way of only categorising by location, then I could support this nom. Laurel Lodged (talk) 14:03, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, they are all French anyway. We might hypothetically have a discussion about immigrant priests but they are currently not in this category. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:56, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment There are large numbers of priests who are sent from their country of origin to another country to do their service. Categorizing these priests by where we worked, and treating them as a group makes sense. Thus I can see compelling reasons for Category:Roman Catholic priests in El Salvador and Category:Roman Catholic priests in India and Category:Roman Catholic priests in China. I am not sure that we have enough articles to justify a group consideration in the case of France, but the trends of the last 40 years or more have involved large numbers of priests originating in the "global south" serving in both the US and Europe.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:00, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
True. Many parishes in Catholic Ireland now depend on priests from "The Third World". Reversal of flow. So a hatnote explaining that France is the country in which they mainly spent their life & pastoral care? Laurel Lodged (talk) 12:42, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • This category only contains French priests who spent their whole working lives in France. It clearly duplicates Category:French Roman Catholic priests. I do think we need to discuss the wider issues raised above, but this is not the ground on which to do it. Rathfelder (talk) 23:59, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps a name change also to clarify the revised scope? Such as Category:Expatriate Roman Catholic priests in France? Do notable examples exist? Laurel Lodged (talk) 09:01, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think we are going to agree to categorise bishops primarily by the country of the diocese in which they operated, not by their individual nationality. Should the same principle apply to other clergy, or do we think their national origin is more important? Trying to do both leads to a lot of confusion. NB there are already some categories for missionaries and along the lines of Category:Spanish Roman Catholic bishops in North America but I think we need to consider the the context of such migration has changed a lot over the last 500 years. What might have been really defining in 1520 looks rather different now. Rathfelder (talk) 21:26, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: merge/delete, we do not categorize people by the region or city where their ancestors have been living, like in this case the city Fuzhou, per WP:COPHERITAGE. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:42, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Recipients of the Order of the Star of Ethiopia[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 06:36, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:NONDEFINING (WP:OCAWARD, WP:PERFCAT, WP:OVERLAPCAT)
When foreign leaders and diplomats visited imperial Ethiopia or vice versa, the Order of the Star of Ethiopia is given out as souvenir. George VI, Abbas II of Egypt, and Mary of Teck are not remotely defined by this award. (Without exception, the Ethiopian recipients are already under Category:Ethiopian Royal Family and, while there are several British diplomats defined by their association with the country, they are already under Category:Ambassadors of the United Kingdom to Ethiopia.) There wasn't a list so I created one right here in the main article for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:08, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Recipients of the Saxon Merit Cross[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 06:35, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING (WP:OCAWARD)
Even though the Order of Merit of the Free State of Saxony is a state-wide award for Saxon Germany, it feels very local: recipients include a children's dance instructor, the leader of a multiple sclerosis support group, the president of a garden club, and an entrepreneur who created a thousand jobs in the auto parts industry (official list). Those all sound like great people but they don't have Wikipedia articles to categorize because they are non-notable.
The only article in the category is Czech Prime Minister Václav Klaus who is not remotely defined by the award. There is a list of some other notable recipients right here in the main article but most of those biographies don't even mention the award. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:08, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
